How Does the Multi-Quote Function Work?

I've seen replies to posts where not only the recent post was shown but also the post it replied to?
Also, in replying, how can you select just a few lines from separate paragraphs?
I suppose both of these situations use the multi-quote function. How does that work?

The way you can choose just a few lines is to first highlight the lines you want. Holding the highlighted point at the end of the line a choice box comes up. One of the choices is 'reply' what the other is I don't recall. Then release the highlight and move the pointer to the choice 'reply' and click it. The highlighted lines will then appear in a reply box for you to type you reply to.

As for the second part of your question how to use the multi-quote function I am curious how to do it too. Thank you for asking. Frankly, I am just too shy to ask much about this site, knowing by experience that I am bound to figure it out myself just by experience.

Within a thread:
Highlight the words you want to quote and then select Quote+.
Select more lines that you want to quote and do the same thing.

Go to the Reply box and select “Insert quotes. They will all be listed and you Ok quoting them.

Jules:
I went to the first line of your post and highlighted it and selected +quote.
Then I went to the last line of your post and highlighted it and selected +quote
Then I went to the reply box and selected Insert Quotes and a box came up with a bunch of messages from people I've never seen!!!!

Wow. If you have previously selected things to quote in other threads and have not inserted them, they’ll still be in the list when you select “insert quotes..”. I hope that‘s what it was.

Could you see my line in your list?

You could “insert quotes“ of what you saw, just for a record of what happened. Or you can remove some or all and insert them.

It weird.

Click on the "+Quote" on each of any number of posts in a thread that you would like to quote.
Then in YOUR reply box at the bottom of the page, click on "Insert quotes"

A box will pop up where you can remove a quote if you wish and if not, click on "Quote messages".

From there and in you reply box you can do whatever you like as far as edit, cut and paste, delete, move words around, etc etc
... up to and until you click on "Post reply".

Jules:
I went through the process again and got the box of people back and deleted all of them.
Then I went back through the process again and selected Insert Quotes and only your 2 lines came up.
So I inserted them and it looks ok. I will try it again below.
Thanks

Deleted since it’s been answered already.
When I first started here I used to manually erase all I didn’t want quote which would take ages.
