couple of days ago we heard a big bang. thinking someone fired off a shotgun then yesterday evening we noticed the top of a big tree had snapped and would eventually brake of and fall across the street. Called the city office this morning just after 8 and they sent man to look at it by 9 am thinking they may do something in the next few days at 5 pm they had a tree comp on site cutting the tree down. Thats fast in my book

My encounter was with my power company a few weeks back.
A squirrel shorted the lines at the transformer and it exploded like a bomb.
We went outside to find the squirrel deceased on the ground below the transformer and we could see the safety fuse blown and dangling at the transformer. That was around 4p. We called and they answered their phone immediately. They were out at my place by 4:30 and power was back on at 4:35. We were very impressed with their turn-around time and their professionalism.

Thats pretty fast for power company. Few years back we had no power for a week only a small area was out and all of us presumed power comp knew when we called they told us no one had called them.

Our power company sends a tree service through the area, about once a year, and they trim or take down any trees that are growing too close to the power lines. As a result, we've only had one time when we lost power, for more than a few minutes....about 10 years ago, when a huge tree fell down during a storm. They sent a crew out within an hour or two, and about 18 hours later, we were back to normal.

Power comp here also trims trees in town most are on city right of way and a lot of them are reaching their life limits there are no overhead power lines at these trees so if they blow over they will just plug the road

When crews are trimming trees for your power comp have you ever seen the big chainsaw they hang down from a chopper. I saw this in S.C. few years back. They were clearing right away it was fascinating to watch them

I have Duke Energy. Lightning hit the pole next to my transformer, so power was out. The fuse was hanging down after the storm when I could get out & look I called duke & they said they would be right out. Glad for Generac's whole house backup generator that runs on either natural gas or my L..P. Took Duke 8 hours to come to replace the fuse, the transformer was ok. Course Duke place where all trucks are is only 20 miles away. Nothing was hurt inside the house as the generator transfer switch has a huge lightning stopper in it. Checked my L.P. tank & I could not see where it went down any. after 8 hrs. of power for the whole house.

We thought about getting a generac. In last 5 years power has only been out 3 or 4 times and longest was only about 2 hrs plus we don't have natural gas or LP. Was going to cost more to get gas or LP set up than the price of the generac so we scaped the idea

When we decided to move to the countryside, I bought a 6500 watt generator....it's strong enough to give us the basics in case of an outage. So, far, we've only had to use it once or twice in the 19 years we've been here. Ironically, shortly after I bought it, and we still lived in the city, we had a huge 4 day outage after a storm took down trees all over the city. We had a houseful of kids and grandkids...and neighbors...while the power was being restored. Now, I just fire it up and let it run for 15 minutes every 4 to 6 weeks...to insure that it's working good if we need it.

Now thats handy and you could use it for other things if needed. We do have a 5000 watt in the camper ( not portable) if we had to we could move into it so far we haven't had to do that

They are efficient units. From what I have heard We installed a big commercial unit on a job and just testing it for 8 hrs used 250 gal of diesel glad not getting that bill

Our power and gas companies are pretty fast here, but they are not City of Albuquerque; they are private (as opposed to government) entities. Our city and county agencies, except the fire department, are slow as molasses.

I have no problem with our utility companies and I have a lot of respect for out town street workers. They work hard picking up trash, yard waste and fix potholes in all kinds of weather. If there is ever a problem with town services it is with council and police, but street workers just keep on doing their job without any problems.

I agree with utilities ours are private also and do a good job I think city issues come from size Being in construction all my life I have noticed towns under 20 thousand work well and fast towns / cities over that size turn into molasses glad now we live in a small town 1500 people next town is10 miles away

Agree clean up and repair crews work fast in all weather council is a joke

I live in a semi-rural area where power outages are not uncommon, but restoration usually occurs within several hours. Road work is another matter, however. I haven’t been able to access my own driveway in over a week due to storm drains and new sidewalks being put in. My street looks like a war zone, and I‘m walking half a mile to a church parking lot to access my vehicle, which is lots of fun in the high heat and humidity while dodging heavy equipment and minding road debris...

My city keeps things running smoothly. If there is a tree down, I hear them working on it as soon as the storm is over. No complaints from me as I have never had a power outage here.

We had a huge ice storm about 15-20 years ago. The icing conditions lasted over 4 days.- and no electricity. Huge trees with 12 inch trunks were bent over , full of ice, the tops touching the ground. When you went out side, it sounded like gun shots as limbs just snapped under the weight. But since then, the power has gone off very infrequently, and for just a few minutes.

We had same thing happen in S.C. very rare for ice storms there was about the same time. Maybe the same storm
