How has the new year been treating you so far?

hey ruthanne---my check engine light stays on also --it will stay on for a while then go out--ive had the car checked dont see any problems

So far ...okay, I guess. I'm in a rut that I need to get out of some way. I'm lacking motivation in all parts of my life. :(

On the good side at least I haven't been sick...yet.

Physical Therapy has also fixed my frozen shoulder/arm. It won't fix the tendinitis but at least I can straighten my left arm now.

Hey! I guess I'm on a roll. Health is good. Moved to AZ last summer and I'm really enjoying the moderate weather. Have a new* lady friend living with me. I probably have just jinxed myself by putting this on here.

*New* - we have know each other since first grade, went to high school together, but had no contact until about a year ago. We are both totally surprised because we had both taken blood oaths to never, ever, never again.

This is the time of the year we complete most of our researching for travels of the year and start the booking process. It's a fun winter activity. As long as we can continue traveling, the year will start out nicely.,

Well, I went to the doctor today.

Good news: it's not the flu.

Bad news: it's double pneumonia.

Good news: it's bacterial, not viral.

Good/bad news: I got a great big old honking shot in my rump that hurt like a sonumagun, but I should feel better in a couple of days. Also, several prescriptions for all kinds of stuff and inhalers. He assures me I may not be totally well by next week but at least I won't be contagious. He wants me to wear a mask in the big cities in India (isn't that going to look good in pictures...LOL)

Double pneumonia!!! I may be the lone voice, here, but I think you're crazy to go to India if you've been ill in the immediate pre-trip time. Considering your current malady, plus India with its horrible big city air quality, and I think you may be bent on self-destruction. Bon voyage, though.

No complaints here. We are back to our once-a-month local road trips, which makes me happy as I love trying new restaurants and zipping along the highway (when it's not full of commuters, preferably!).

Went up to Mendocino County CA in December after a four year absence, came back and stayed in Sonoma County for the fourth time in 2017. Love visiting Sonoma, so beautiful.

Decided we would start 2018 by visiting two places we don't usually go:
- Benicia - once the capitol of CA, now a cute little small town on the way to the Napa Valley.
- Sacramento - CA's current capitol. Hadn't been there in 40 yrs, what changes! Had a great time, saw a couple of friends who used to live in the Bay Area but have now settled out in a Sacto suburb.

Next trip - probably Napa Valley. Tons of new restaurants to try out. We don't drink, so it's not our fav place to visit because there's very little else to do but taste wine and eat, LOL.

We have had a fairly busy month of January ...we grow and dry our own fruit ...that’s now in storage for when we want to munch of that for a snack ,been socialising with neighbours over at their place twice for BBQ s as well as attending our hobby of social ballroom dancing ...
Our social has been hectic ,as well as a couple of specialist apps to check surgery I had

So far so good and I don't see that changing! Happy and content, but as usual I am looking forward to spring and getting my old car back out on the road again.

Everything's going fine except for one small incident:

Earlier this month, I replaced my car battery. During the time it was out of the car, the computer lost its memory and the vital sensors lost their calibration.

I didn't detect anything wrong until I took my car in for a smog check, and the technician said he couldn't run the test because the interface between my car and the testing computer was off line.

He said that the only cure for re-booting the computer and re-calibrating the sensors was to take the car on a 100-mile trip varying between high and low speeds with occasional stops to shut off the car.

This would restore everything to normal and I could take the smog test, since my car is now 6 years old, which requires it being smogged.

Other than that, It's been a happy MMXVIII !

30 days into 2018 has been really-great mixed with a seasoning of not-so-great. The not-so-great stuff has taught me some really-great lessons about myself and life so it's been worth it. It has left me, so far, feeling very grateful.

My daughter has been living with me for 2 months now while she prepares for a career change. I've been helping her and she's been helping me which has worked well for both of us, though I won't kid you, there have been some testy moments. We've both been good about letting go and moving on to the point where we don't even remember what the testy moments were all about so we have grown closer and more respectful of each other...even more than before.

For those with engine lights ON, if there's "nothing wrong with the engine" then it's probably your computer chips on the blink causing emissions. Our cars these days have these "computer chips". Emissions will keep you from passing inspection because it can "possibly" pollute the air so must be taken care of but can be costly depending on which chip it is that must be reset. I think it's a conspiracy but meanwhile it must be dealt with. There is a way to turn off the engine light without fixing the chips but then what if something really is wrong with the engine that you need a notification for...so it's a catch22. (...and, of course, if you don't fix it then it hurts air quality).
