How I outed a P.I..

My daughter and son in law were still living with us in those days when she walked out one morning and got in her car in front of the house and left for work.
That is when I noticed the SUV with the dark windows parked along the curb across the street.
An elderly lady lives across the street and she has two big lots so it looked out of place where he was parked.
I went over and walked around the SUV looking at it and noted the license number and where the city sticker was from.
Looked it up and found out it was a rental from a nice area just west of Chicago.
Okay no problem.
Another day it makes a U-Turn at the corner up the street.
Sunday morning comes along- another U-Turn same corner.
I jump in my car and go looking.
He is parked along the side street next to a corner tavern where the highway turns and follows our Main Street for three blocks.
Jogs through town.
I drive by looking at him a couple of times and park along the curb behind him and walk up to his drivers window.
I ask him what he is up to and he asks why he should tell me.
i tell him that he is a suspicious vehicle seen numerous times in my neighborhood including in front of my house.
He shows me his P.I. badge and said “Yeah I saw you looking the car over when I parked on Maple.”!
He said that if I notice that across the street from my house is the only place that you can see all the way up and down the street and he sat there to observe his subject.
Then he told me that he sits beside the bar to watch for his subject to come into town.
I was really wondering what a P.I. Is doing in our dinky town so I told him I needed to know and he asked why he should tell me anything.
I lied and said that I had just made myself the head of the neighborhood watch and that he would tell me or the police.
He said he would tell the police but not me.
That was when he said Holy Cow! Half the town knows about me now, YOU KNOW WHAT you are impeding my investigation.”
I left and saw the town cop about an hour later running radar.
So I asked him if he had talked to the P. I. ?
He said he did and that everything was okay!
I checked and he was right that if you sit in that exact spot on Maple you can see nearly all the way up and down MY street.

:) I used to hold a P.I.license. Only because I was a process server and the extra license helped.
One night I was discreetly parked in a residential area on surveillance. A man approached on foot from another direction. I rolled down my window. He said, "Get out of here. Leave."
I left at once, went home, got another vehicle, found a new spot to park.
Vigilant neighbors. Understandable and to be respected. I had the police called on me many times.

Interesting. You were brave to confront him that way. I would have called the police to report a suspicious vehicle, but as long as it worked for you . . . that's what counts.
You know how some people say things without thinking?
I think I do things like that if something gets me going bad enough.
Wife says I’m the most nosey person in town.
I tell her that I pride myself on being observant.

I get the Secret Service in front of my house----so na na na na na. And they won't even roll down the window much less talk. One day they sat in front of the house while we planted azlias (sp) in the front yard.
