Interesting article, thanks! How Important Are You?
Applies to myself as well as others. To others, of course, but, to yourself?
I think you've nailed it.In my opinion, we are only important to those who love us. Beyond that I (we) have no importance what-so-ever. My dog thinks I am pretty important because I provide him with yummy food. Does that count ?
Well for the sake of argument we could use this definition.[How Important Are You?
Both Morgan and the Dalai Lama, then, must have big egos; they just express them differently."
If a person is said to have a big ego, it implies that they are perceived to be full of their own importance and think they are better than others. Having a big ego is also often associated with narcissistic tendencies, a superiority complex, and being self-absorbed.
I think I know what you are getting at, and the Dalai Lama's wisdom does mean that arrogance, such as amply displayed by Piers Morgan, would most likely make him a poor leader, were he to have such a trait in his character.I would agree that the Dalai Lama is aware of his importance in the world, but I personally don't see him as thinking that he is "better" than others. I see the Dalai Lama as a humble man, I know nothing about Piers Morgan however.
Every form of life is important in the universe (my opinion). Everything and everyone plays a part whether they are aware or not. The trouble is some are filled to the brim with their own self importance by which I mean, pompous, conceited and having or showing an exaggerated opinion of their own importance. I think it is called having a narcissistic personality disorder.
I beg to differ!
One should consider the actions of said life form. For instance, if a life form cooks a fish and doesn't share it with the less fortunate is that life form still important in the universe? I don't think so.
do not be sad! you are on my next invite list!
Had you come and brought some baklava (my favourite sweet), you would have sat at the head of the table!
Agree with everything you've said, though I have one uncomfortable thought.Every form of life is important in the universe (my opinion). Everything and everyone plays a part whether they are aware or not. The trouble is some are filled to the brim with their own self importance by which I mean, pompous, conceited and having or showing an exaggerated opinion of their own importance. I think it is called having a narcissistic personality disorder.
"All being well" our importance to ourselves and to others will vary, going up or down, and repeating this many times, maybe sometimes linked one to the other, (or even inversely linked!).To others, of course, but, to yourself?
