Lunch with DS and his husband was great. Pasties! They're too much trouble for me to make anymore, and they asked what I'd like when they invited me...pasties. They even sent a whole one home with me. That's lunch tomorrow and Saturday. Yippee.

There are some things I really miss about living in the UP: pasties, northern lights, lilacs.

When I got home DD and I went to the garden center where I couldn't say no. There were impatiens begging to go home with me. I'll plant them tomorrow morning when it's not hot yet.

ETA: Another thing. When at DS's place, I was bemoaning needing a haircut and was tempted to just have my cutter shave my head next-to-bald. Well. DSIL volunteered to do just that. He cuts their hair so why not? I mean, geez, it's just hair, and if it had turned out awful it would grow back. Right? Tell you what: it lends a whole new meaning to "light headed." And it saved me $20 for a haircut.

Very good. I won some money in the lottery again. This is the fourth time in a week and someone noticed and mentioned it. This makes me feel good. It's just small amounts right now, but I know the big prize is coming. Won't it be fun when it does. In the meantime, I'm in a much happier mood. It doesn't take much. :giggle:

TDBU blinds are top down/bottom up. I can open them either way. Most of the time I lower the top so no one can see in.
Here’s an example. When the cord breaks, we have to take it to a specialist. It’s not the cost ($65) as much as my husband’s shoulder is in bad shape and he has a hard time getting them down.

The car has had that little part replaced now. The mechanic told us to run it for a week, pay then, and if it doesn’t work to return it and they’ll trouble shoot it. It’s nice having a local fellow we trust.

Now we’re off to look at dishwashers.

My morning routine is walking from bathroom into living room.
and straight to front door, I open the door to look outside, then
shut it and go to kitchen...in view of recent BEAR sightings I feel
I should change that routine, I can look at my 32inch security screen to see whats going on !!!
You should not scare the bears!
How about starting with looking out of a window?

Pasties, pronounced "pass-tee", are traditional meat pies that began in England and were brought to Michigan by Cornish miners when they migrated to Northern Michigan in the 1800's.

The miners used to carry a lunch "bucket" that was two parts. The bottom was for hot tea, the top was used for the pasty. It was intended that the hot tea would keep the pasty warm. Of course, by lunchtime, the tea was cold unless the miners found equipment that was kept running so they could put the lunch bucket on it to keep it hot. Didn't really matter for the pasties because they're good hot or cold, but I don't think I'd have much liked cold tea.

Started as a fairly typical day. Drove housemate to CVS to pick up prescription in next town because they closed the one near us. Went to cardiologist for more bloodwork.

Then spent time in afternoon putting stuff at the curb for bulk pickup. (Actually paid someone else to follow my instructions.)
Happy to discover that they take mattresses, TVs, microwaves, lawnmowers, furniture, etc.

Paper shredding event on Saturday and planning a trip to Staples recycle to unload some electronics.

It is so much easier to accumulate than discard.
 
@hollydolly The top pix of pasties are what ours look like. There are some in the UP who actually put brown gravy on pasties. Whaaat? My grandmother made hers with only diced beef, onions, carrots because she said that's the way they made them in the "old country."

There are those who insist that rutabaga should be included, carrots excluded. Then there are those who branched out so that now there are bacon and egg pasties, ham and egg pasties, chicken pasties, "Italian" pasties made with pepperoni, let-your-imagination-run-wild pasties...

I prefer the original like my grandmother made and made mine the same way. One of my sisters makes hers with ground beef because it's easier than dicing up a hunk of beef. Another sister and an aunt make pasty pies instead because it's easier than individual pasties. Pasty pies...all the same ingredients but they just don't taste the same when baked like a pie and cut in wedges. Nope.

Or...for those who don't want to go to all the trouble of making pasties, in the UP there's at least one pasty shop in even the tiniest town. When I was a teen, I even worked at a drive-thru pasty shop. No kidding.

yes it's the same here there are all different flavours of pasties , but the original pasties are still widely available

Minced beef is an absolute no-no in any kind of Cornish pasty, traditional or not...

I have news for you Gigi.... rutabaga which is the American name for Swede or Yellow turnip and is a traditional filling for Cornish Pasties...

However in the rival next county of Devon where they make Devon pasties.. the pasties are made with the crimping up the middle rather than at the side...

l don't like pasties... not the traditional type anyway because I hate diced carrots and smelly onion in them, and the obion does seem to be too powerful... so I never buy pasties.

On the occasion..and it's a rare occasion that I get the urge for one..I make my own with mild onions.. no carrots, and no swede...

...and I'm quite partial to having gravy with it, if it's part of my sit down meal rather than just a snack
 
Tornado watch here with a strong line to the west and a large region of tornado warnings. Moving toward me around 55 mph.

I expect some rain and thunder and some strong gusts and then high straight-line winds. But the worst might miss me since it seems to be moving to the northeast not directly east.

One earlier report of 72 mph wind as the line passed through there an hour ago. No actual tornados yet as far as I can determine from live storm chaser reporting and the weather service.
 
well if you could possibly just as an experiment cut that sugar by at least 3/4 if not right out for just a week,... and see if your pain level drops... because I have a theory borne out by experience ( and I love sugar) that sugar really causes seriously inflammatory pain...

I totally agree with @hollydolly that inflammation of the body is the root cause of so many health problems. Fast food is poisoning your body; no transfat; limit sugar and salt, limit your calories. Walk as like I do: 1 hour in the morning and 1/2 hour in the evening (it guaranties a good sleep.) Exercise is essential. Take nutritional supplements (in my view, alpha lipoic acid is essential to fight inflammation.) I am eating almost every day some canned fish, and am drinking daily several cups of green tea (4/5 tea and 1/5 apple juice for a better taste.) And the list goes on and on.

One measurement of inflammation of the body is the C-Reactive Protein Test. According to this test, I am practically free of inflammation. Also, I already had 9 COVID shots and never had even an inkling of this problem. I am doing everything in my power to live mentally and physically reasonably healthy to at least one hundred.

If you are indulging, you are likely to have pain and a short life; but if you are careful about what you are doing, you have a better chance of a relatively pain free and long life. Search the Internet for "longevity" and look at websites like, Healthy Aging

For some 20 years, I also have been using Retinol Cream (Vitamin A) that makes me look much younger than my real age.
But I also had a dozen surgeries; I crushed my 5th vertebra in a ski accident; torn tendons and muscles in my left hip causes
me to limp slightly, I am wearing hearing aids, and at 89 I don't have longer the energy and strength I used to have.

Quite a few touchdowns, some in small towns but no serious damage reports yet. More high winds up to 79 mph but nothing higher officially reported.

Came through here but all I heard was a lot of rumbling, since I'd hit the basement. That was probably thunder and not the winds. While down there my power went out for about 10 seconds and then I lost Internet access for maybe 10 minutes. My phone didn't have Internet access either.

Seems to be weakening now as it heads east, but wind reports in the 60s of mph continue. Might still see some small tornados east of I-75.

I took a brief peek around outside but I don't see much evidence of high winds, at least no damage or anything blown around.

all over today, may or may not do laundry....those bear sightings are about 60 miles from ,me....does make me wonder
why I've not seen any rabbits, possums, groundhogs, or deer this spring tho....>@@@
