Extended family is having Christmas together, but I won't be there since I just saw them at Thanksgiving. So, I baked a Cornish hen today to get that out of the way, then will cook the other stuff tomorrow, which won't take long.

Got out this afternoon to run errands and pick up p.o. box mail. There were several Christmas cards, but one from someone named Elizabeth last name omitted with a note that says "Thinking of you during this time of holidays. I'm just a phone call away if you ever want to talk. Can also be reached at work." Wish I knew who she was. She may be someone I've contacted about insurance or other business because it was signed "Elizabeth and Family," which removes any personal implications.

Downtown was pretty much dead - businesses closed early. Stopped at the cemetery to visit my wife's grave, but that was just a spur of the moment decision. I was a strange afternoon in the 80's, and seems like September, not Christmas.

Best wishes to everyone for your Christmas. - Mack

A HUGE tragedy for us. Yesterday our son collapsed and died. We assume it was a heart attack. He was 50 years old.
We've got all sorts of things to do, so you'll understand that I wont be posting for a while, probably not till the New year
I know that your love and condolences will be with us at what should be a happy time of year.
Love, Capt Lightning.
I only just learnt about this via the Christmas thread.
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your son. It's against the natural order for parents to bury their offspring, it's supposed to be the other way around.

I'm just off to bed, but I had to answer this... the Germans are very cold fish.. verrrry..... if anything at all they're worse than the French for being cold...

We as Brits were used to hearing a lot of laughter and music in the pubs.. but not in Germany!
When we lived in Germany when I was a kid, we went to a nearby Biergarten sometimes, and everyone was singing beer drinking songs -- all of which I hated, being small.

I told my daughter that she would be happier in Italy, but then she'd have to start on another language. Pretty soon, she's going to be Jack of all Languages, and master of none (except English). When my kids were children, I encouraged them to learn Pig Latin. You would be amazed at how fast they speak it. People always think they are speaking Chinese. If she had just stuck with that, we wouldn't be having this French problem because she'd be bilingual.

It's an absolutely glorious day today. Blue, blue skies, which we get quite often at Christmas here in the South.

The X and I used to always go out if it as sunny Christmas day, and find a pub garden that was open... and take a walk along the river... I miss that!

It's coming up to Noon now.. I could go out but I had a terrible night's sleep last night I literally had to get up and take meds, so I don't feel like going anywhere... which is a shame.

I tell you what tho', I have a neighbour who treats their cat like a dog, and they're out in the garden with the cat calling for it , and ordering it around as tho' it were a dog, and she does this every morning between 7am and 8am..

As I didn't get to sleep until around 6am.. when she started this morning.. she seemed extra loud and woke me up.. and I was swearing under my breath.... this went on for a good hour until eventually she stopped and I dropped off again.

At 10am when I got up, and opened the curtains and blind. I discovered I'd left the window wide open all night...:eek:

No wonder it was so cold in my bedroom, and I could hear her so loudly...

Hello to everyone. Well, someone in Arkansas won the Power Ball lottery at 1.8 billion. I am glad I do not have to buy tickets.

It is sunny and will be 81 degrees today.

I will be fixing our Christmas dinner this afternoon.

@hollydolly wow that is a lot of food. I am fixing so much less for us. Anyway, eat what you can and have a nice Christmas.🤗

I hope all of you have a great Christmas Day. :)

Well I would have made a much smaller lunch for me , becuse I really can't eat very much in one sitting. I really don't know why my neighbours bring me soooo much food . They're kind of stocky.. and tall.. and I imagine they eat a lot.. even their kids are taller than average for their ages, but I'm not a big eater ... and they always bring me food as if they think I'm feeding 4 people. I've wrapped the plates in foil and put them in the fridge for now... but there's also some of I don't actually like, but I don't want to tell them that, because I don't want to appear ungrateful, they're just so generous...

Just like for Thanksgiving - I put some things together or partially prepared for Christmas dinner. Made the stove-top stuffing, defrosted the chicken breasts and now they are marinating in the fridge in poultry seasoning and butter. Pearl onions are soaking in water in the fridge.

Some things can't be prepared ahead of time. Tomorrow I will cook the onions and chicken. Stuffing and the canned zucchini can be heated in the nuker. What can be said for cranberry sauce?
I decided to forego the zucchini in lieu of Brussels sprouts. The canned zucchini will keep. Brussels sprouts have a shelf life.

That's a lot of food! I hope most of it is freezable so it doesn't go bad before you can eat it.

yes I can freeze some of it.... but that's only the starters so I'm told, because look what the man of the house has just brought around a few minutes ago... the meat course.!

A very large plate of steaks, 2 different types of Romanian sausage.. Chicken, and Pork ribs.. with pickled cauliflower the size of my fist......absolutely all of this will be frozen as soon as it cools down.

He said he'll be back soon with the Cake... !
They have about 15 people there, and not only are they feeding them, but thinking about me as well.

There's absolutely no need to bring me food, but they choose to do it.. out of the sheer kindness of their hearts...

You could invite friends/family over and feed at least four people with that!

Our neighbors gave us a box of filled, iced do-nuts before the holidays.
I baked a two different kinds of cookies, fixed a plate of them for hubby to take to them.

Today as we sat down for lunch our, youngest son called to wish us a "Merry Christmas".
Two of the gran daughters also send season's greeting to us.

Hope all of you have happy, peaceful, day.

9.30pm and the dessert has arrived. My neighbour brought it around a few minutes ago.. she said one cake is made entirely by her and the other is a cake brought by her visitors....

I had a little taste of my neighbours' cake which has fresh raspberries in it..... and it's delicious, soooo light..they look heavy but they're very light.. . I've covered them and put them in the fridge for tomorrow, when I can freeze them

@hollydolly Yesterday afternoon my older daughter and I brought cookie plates to our neighbors.

As usual, my wife prepared so much food for the Christmas dinner that the leftovers would feed another ten people.
And when I suggested buying less food to have less work to do, then she got mad at me.

My pups got more gifts (treats, dog food) than I am. I am glad. I had told everyone not to buy me anymore clothing, etc.
Only my favorite food items would be all right.

Left: The biggest disaster was today when my grandson got a new bicycle and promptly crashed. When I offered driving him
to the hospital emergency room, then he laughed again. Right: Who is able to do more mischief: my 6 year old grandson or my
15 month old puppy Rex? The puppy loves biting my nose. No matter how gentle he does it, the bites still hurt. His sharp paw nails
have given me many wounds when playing with him. I made sure that my tetanus shots are up-to-date.

IMG_5083.JPG2025-12-25.jpg

Tonight I have to dog-sit my grandson's Beagle. Will I get any sleep? Perhaps only after they are exhausted from playing. The Beagle is quite feisty.

IMG_5089.JPG

My grandson is very innovative in using my mini-gym, like walking backwards on the treadmill and using my foot stepper as a climbing tool.

No real plans for today just gonna chill... maybe clear out some more drawers... I've now got 4 empty drawers.. that's never been known...lol....
