Yesterday was mostly an errand day... grocery shopping and a quick trip to Costco. Though they apparently stopped carrying what I went there for, I still spent nearly $100!. ($50 of that was covered by my Medicare OTC card.). Plus I filled up at the Costco gas station ($5.49/gal so down a touch).
yes I was actually surprised a couple of days ago at Costco because I spent £145 and change...on what seemed very little. Granted I haven't been for a few months but still....I spent £40 of it on fuel.. £105..was on just 2kg chicken thighs 1k , sausages, 1k,Strawberries.. 2kg Shrimp rice....box of frozen mini donuts for the kids next door..4 boxes of non latex gloves.. some paper plates , and 2 pairs of trainers in the sale ..( trainers were £30 for both )

@StarSong, I hope you enjoyed your grandson's band and orchestra concert. I always particularly loved orchestra because they had to dress so formally. I've used my son in his orchestra dress outfit a few times as my avatar.
I sure did. The music was delightful and far more intricate than what one might expect of a middle school orchestra and band. For some segments the orchestra played alone, for others they were joined by the band.

I think I have ADHD...lol... 2 and a half hours ago I went downstairs to make a cuppa tea.... I put the kettle on then went into the garden... and decided to clear the shed out. While I was there I noticed the laurel hedge had suddenly grown very fast outwards.. so I got the electric trimmer.. and cut it back.. the hedge is very big...something like 30 feet by 80 I just cut back up to where I could reach which was only about 7 feet high...

while doing that I noticed the birds had no mealworms .. so i filled a feeder with those..( it's very hot ) and refilled the birdbath... once I'd cut the hedge I fed and watered my plants. Foxgloves, & lupins.. and lillies...then I went back to finishing the shed... and chucking loads of stuff out, I filled a 1/2 of a 240 litre wheelie bin... eventually I got everything put away and came in washed up, and decided I was too hot for the tea and poured myself an ice cold coke...:ROFLMAO:

Well at 8am this Saturday morning, drove the mile to a Whole Food market and per above bought a 32 ounce package of Driscoll's Strawberries for $6.99. Then ate a couple of the reddest ones. Compared to regular supermarket strawberries, I would tentatively agree they are more flavorful and maybe somewhat sweeter. But not as sweet as the wild beach strawberries I mentioned. It may be that the Driscoll's Sweetest Strawberries are a seasonal product that indeed is sweeter, however that doesn't seem to be a current product, even online.

Here is what Google AI relates:

Wild beach strawberries (Fragaria chiloensis) are significantly sweeter than standard supermarket varieties primarily because of their size, their evolutionary adaptation to harsh coastal environments, and the way they are harvested.
Here is why they pack such an intense flavor punch:

  • Higher Sugar Concentration: Wild strawberries are tiny. Because they are so small, they contain much less water than plump, commercially grown strawberries, leading to a higher concentration of natural sugars and aromatic compounds.
  • Sun Exposure and Terroir: Native to coastal dunes, wild beach strawberries are battered by ocean winds, intense sunlight, and poor, sandy soil. This harsh environment stresses the plant, forcing it to channel its energy into producing robust, flavorful fruit to attract wildlife and ensure seed dispersal.
  • Vine-Ripened Perfection: Supermarket strawberries are bred for durability, size, and shelf-life. They are usually picked while still white or pale so they don't bruise during shipping, meaning they never develop their full sugar potential. Wild strawberries ripen fully on the vine, allowing them to develop their maximum natural sweetness.

Growing up, my parents enjoyed gardening and would often plant strawberries. Like the wild variety, they were small sweet berries that I loved to eat. This is a small crop from recent photo of wild beach strawberries I took during my North Coast road trip:

I might enlarge that picture and hang it on my kitchen wall. Very nice!

so I went back down 45 minutes ago... and put a big family size Chicken and asparagus pie in the oven... and then went out and raked up all the laurel leaves ( it's past 7pm now ).... ... so I think at 71 with OA in my hands and knees I've done more than my share today for exercise lol

just waiting now for the pie to be ready.... 🥧

@Babs2u , below is a PostImages dot com link to a better framed crop that as is, will fit sharply on a standard 11 by 8.5 sheet. The actual image size is 2425 by 1954 pixels and is set to 247.3 pixels/inch so will print out at 9.8 by 7.9 inches as is. A cost of about $3 at a FedEx Office on their higher quality printer. The image was focus stack blended from 19 shots on my Sony a6700 using a Sigma 56mm DC DN lens at F5.0 with the full image size 6150 by 4100 pixels.
