I'll posit, maybe never.
Even with the inevitable death of the Sun, humans will most likely gone out into interstellar space and colonised other planets.

Population is already in decline, most rapidly in industrialized nations but fastest in big cities.

Overpopulation is just one of the myths being used to social engineer a new era of feudalism.
So this is the reason. For years I have been trying to understand why so many are against abortion and birth control in the U.S. I guess they are just trying to save the human race. I guess.

I wouldn't go that far. You can find a hundred reasons why people oppose those things individually or together. Some good, some bad.
O.K. I could be wrong. I am not good at all the social change that is taking place all around me. I am not too sure at this point in my life if I am just 'old fashioned' or just outdated. It is a very confusing world to me. When younger it all seemed so neatly packaged. I always knew where I stood and was good with that with the people I knew. Not so much today. Being old makes me question both the changes and myself.

China's population drops for second year, with record low birth rate

Summary
  • China's population drops 0.15% y/y in 2023
  • Birth rate at new low, death rate at highest since 1974
  • Total new births drop 5.7% to 9.02 mln
  • Total deaths rise 6.6% to 11.1 mln

HONG KONG, Jan 17 (Reuters) - China's population fell for a second consecutive year in 2023, as a record low birth rate and a wave of COVID-19 deaths when strict lockdowns ended accelerated a downturn that will have profound long-term effects on the economy's growth potential.

Ha! Ha! Yeah right! With all of the people in China, India, and other large countries, there's no chance of that. If one is against abortion, that is fine, but others do not have to see things that way, or agree.

We could go extinct tomorrow if the right meteorite comes along. And assuming, we don't blow ourselves up, we could go on for quite some time. But I'm not sure what is living 500,000+ years from now will be what we call "human". That's a long enough time for evolution to alter us. We'll probably still be walking around the earth, but it may not be who we can recognize, today.
