How Much Do You/Did You/Would You Spend on Dog Grooming?

I just got rehired at a PetSmart I used to work for. It's been several years but I forgot how much they can charge for grooming. There was a Shi Tzu owner who kind of threw the grooming slip at me. She didn't even have a store card to at least save on something. Just for Pookin's haircut...not food or toys even...a bit over $300.

There's a new slang expression for this owner..." Resting Beeeyatch Face". A face that doesn't even blink, too much Botox and filler perhaps? A face that doesn't register that you spend more on your handful of dog than some people for a whole family.

Am I jealous? Well yeah I could use a few hundred bucks. But even if money were no object. I just groomed my dogs tonight. Sophie gets a double shampoo and rinse. She bites herself obsessively so you want her super fresh. Callie has perfect Marine fur, tight on the sides and short on top.

He can get washed and dry in minutes. Maybe a quick brush down Sophie's back and she is happy. I'm not high maintenance...I don't need dogs that require precision haircuts:p

In Florida we had a mobile groomer that came to the house and trimmed/bathed/etc both little yappers for $80 + tip. Now on the Big Island I take them to a shop in Hilo. They charge $95 + tip for both of them. They get groomed once a month.

My haircut at Magic Cuts is $20 with a generous tip. Go Figure

I've had high maintenance dogs for around 30 years now, Standard Schnauzers and now a Labradoodle. I've always groomed them myself with help from my husband. I have a grooming table, clippers, etc. I knew I wouldn't want to spend that much money on a regular basis just to maintain my dog's coat. We also scale their teeth and pluck the ear hairs when needed. With wirehaired dogs, that's especially necessary to avoid dirt buildup, itching or infections.

I brought my Schnauzer in once when I was younger to a groomer, they gave him such burns in his private areas that he was running away from himself for over a week, nothing I put on it helped. Don't remember what it cost, maybe 50 bucks. I don't really trust them with my furkids, although I know there are some good ones out there who are gentle.

My haircuts are usually $15 from a chain salon, with the coupons I usually use, it's $12. I've also had dogs that just needed baths and brushing, much easier for sure. I imagine if I was too old and sickly where I couldn't do it anymore, I might use a groomer, hope that never happens. :eek:ld:

I tip my hat to folks who do that kind of grooming SB. I'm good with a whole shampoo and cleaning ears...please may my back never break lifting them into the tub. The only thing I do take them to the groomers for is nails. Even then it's maybe six times a year. Sophie is so twitchy I'm afraid I'll slip on cutting something. People hair I have cut, guess dog hair is the same idea.

Since I've always had labs, and now a pittie mix, I've never had to have professional grooming done. Bonnie is right now having to get medicated baths as regular intervals because of her skin issues. My vet's office does that, and it doesn't cost very much. They "throw in" nail trims while she's in there.

As soon as we're really into fall, Bonnie will quite getting the regular baths at the vet's office. I wouldn't be able to afford one of those high maintenance doggies.

I am very fortunate to have found Patty at a grooming shop very close to me. Suzy gets bathed, hair cut, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and anal glands expressed all for $26.00. I give her a $10.00 tip. Suzy was groomed about a week ago and she looks so cute!! She has a red, white and blue bow on her collar for Labor Day, too. Everyone will see how adorable she looks at the cookout later today.

I bet Suzy looks cute, any pictures Ruth? My husband usually does the nails on the dog, but I'll do them if I have to. I always do my cat's nails too, only gave him one bath since we got him.

My camera doesn't work SB, sorry, and I don't have a smart phone or a cell phone that takes pictures. But here is one of her after being groomed at another time:

I pay $40 a piece for my two little dogs to be groomed.. and $65 for my big dog.. That includes washing, nail clipping and butt gland squeezing, as well as a nice short haircut.. Of course I get my dogs "Puppy cut"... I do not go in for the "show cuts". Too much work and I don't have time to be brushing dogs all day.

Great pix Ruthanne and tnthomas and quicksilver! :)
As an aside, our fur babies also get better medical care than most of the children in the world.

:love_heart:Thank you everyone...I am now babbling baby talk and hugging and kissing my computer screen:love_heart:

A product I saw that I found amusing. They have acrylic claw covers for cats. I guess instead of declawing or even just as a fashion statement you put these beautiful claws on kitty. A cat like our Chii or Ninja...you'd require transfusions, grafts and a few years of corrective surgery when you were done. But they would have such pretty little paws;)

I worked as a groomer for a while 15 years ago,so I always groomed my own Poodles after that. Before that,I paid $25.00-$35.00 each. My dream is (and always has been) to have a black Standard Poodle (mine were all Toys) but the cost of grooming has kept me from getting one. I could groom it myself, but it would be an all day job and pretty backbreaking. Even grooming the little ones would get to my back. Of course, maybe if I didn`t try to do them all in one day....

My Izzy goes every 6 to 8 weeks depending on the time of the year. I use to clip our dogs, but now it's just Izzy and me, so the cost of $45.00 is worth it. The best thing is it helps control is Izzy's allergies. Here he is from just last week.

$300? Whoa. Think I would have to take the dog around for "estimates" ha -ha. I guess though, some of those intricate cuts take time and skill, especially the face. We had a half Shi Tzu, my husband used to clip her but I always trimmed her face. Not professional looking but she was neat and clean. She was white with pink skin so clipping her short in the summer made it easy to spot fleas and ticks. Show dogs are another thing. Do they consider them to be a business?

Ruth, Thomas, QS and Ina, your furbabies are sooo cute! :love_heart: Here's two of my Schnauzers, the first is Hans who I lost last August, and the other is Hans with his younger 'sister' Sigilwig (Siggy)- R.I.P. camping with us at a lake shortly after their home groomings.

So does my Bonnie! She also eats better than an awful lot of children in the world.

I wish I was treated half as well by my doc's staff as Bonnie is treated by the vet's staff. They always fuss over her and tell her how glad they are to see her and what a pretty and good girl she is, and give her little treats.

Yeah, there would be serious bloodletting if we tried that on my sister's cat. That cat has NO sense of humor.

Hey all, nice looking animals, well groomed but no doubt spoiled rotten!

But spoiled is so very subjective. I see spoiled as Pookin's being a five pound tea cup size. Fussy about food and showing teeth at strangers. You can't believe how many dogs there are like that. Now add a dress and matching bows on it's ears regardless of perceived gender.

My pups are spoiled. A treat box on the front porch. Anyone comes in the door and they get yummies. Hugs and kissies and I Love You's all day long. But with the right tone of voice they will both all but hit the ground for me. When you have dogs that could take out a human in three bites you need that control.

Spoiled yes, but they know I walk on water and perform miracles. Does it get better than that? No of course not.

Talking about showing teeth..went to a cookout today and took Suzy dog with me. I caught her showing her teeth to a tiny little dog...think she wanted to be the only dog there to beg for food! When I saw her do that I said "Suzy" and her face changed instantly and she started wagging her tail....lol
