How much do you identify yourself online?

I’ve never been a Facebook member but was quite naive and a lot more open with my first
experience of social media, a small friendship group

A lady member would chat using PM’s then one day I was horrified to get a message from some random woman who lived in my town, telling me all her domestic and health problems and asking to meet for coffee, my ‘friend’ had told her I lived in the same town !

After that I became a lot more careful, I dare say anybody curious (nosey) enough could find out more about me with a bit of detective work but, if they are that desperate, and have nothing more interesting to do with their time, good luck to them.

It does not matter any more. Just Google your name, and be shocked at how much data is available through one of the search services.
The danger is incorrect information may be posted. For example, on one service it is stated may age as 10 years younger than I am, that I am single, which I am not, and I am in the real estate business. which I am not.

Senior Forum is the only social website I use, and I've felt safe posting certain family photos here.

But I was a victim of cyber-stalking about 10 or 12 years ago that went on for several years, and it was horrible. So I don't do Facebook or Twitter or any others.

I've had the county assessor's office suppress my name from being listed on public facing property tax databases. Then I Googled my name + physical address, and filed takedown demands for any "people finder" sites that displayed my personal profile. My Facebook exposure is to Family & Friends only.

I got off Facebook over a decade ago but sometimes wish I had kept it and just pared it down. A lot of the businesses here use Facebook and it is not that easy to get their info if you do not have an account. Also, people here tend to look at you a little funny when you say you don't have a Facebook account.

I'm pretty careful but not fanatical about it. I have never fallen for a scam and hope I never do. Phone calls from numbers not in my phone do not get answered.

I have no interest in popular social media platforms: Fakebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, WhatsApp, or anything else. I'll share some things here, but I've learned it's in my best interest to limit what I share.

What you post on SF can be “shared” by anyone. Anything you post anywhere can and often does end up in places where you never intended it to be. If you post it, it's forever out there in cyberspace.

It matters very little how much or how little you write on line but the moment one puts up a picture, you can be easily located.
That's a fact!
