How Often Do Discussions Here Get Hijacked?

What were we talking about? Oh now I remember. Comments can mean different things to different people. It may be that the seemingly off topic comments are perfectly in tune with the OP in the mind of the one who posts it. On another line of thought. I woke up breathing this morning ain't it great. What's really bad is when a comment is posted in the wrong thread. That really makes things confusing. Especially when I am the one who posted it....o_O

A more common factor is posting a vague opening thread topic that can be interpreted in several ways other than what an OP author intended. On other boards, have noticed such members tend to create most threads. Of course, that will not only result in more thread hijacking from the OP's perspective but also encourage others that tend to post likewise as they do on Twitter with one liners. This is a factor in why my own created threads tend to have longer opening text, so such is not likely to happen.

If given patience, a thread has run its course with few if any additional posts, I don't have issues with widening a discussion. But if a thread I created, any obvious early hijacking input that does not in someway state they are just interjecting say an anecdotal input, is likely to get an off-topic input from this person, especially if political or an ongoing emotional issue between members.
Very logical and intellectual. Well said.

I understand what you are saying about threads getting hijacked. When I see a thread that I am interested I answer to the original message that was posted. Answers that some people have said that are off the subject I disregard, people who quote what other people have said and put in their opinion I disregard. When all is said and done what I respond to is probably about twenty five percent or less of the total volume in the thread.

I didn't figure on becoming a narcissistic villain when my thread was just a general question that became mostly about toilets and flushing and not closing lid. Just saying.
My bad. But the topic was a question, and I answered it....something like, "what's a minor thing you think is really important," right?

I don't think anyone here would ever jump down your throat if you asked people to get back on topic. Some might avoid your threads afterward, but most people wouldn't. And I think there's a couple thousand members, at least.

I doubt if I would ever even do that, Mur. And furthermore you did nothing wrong. You did answer the question correctly and in an amusing way. I like you. In fact, I don't dislike anyone there. I just asked a question, pure and simple.

Talking about meandering off course...
Those Teletubbies meander all over their wooded homeland
Did you know The Tellytubbies were inspired by Astronauts?
Co-creator Andrew Davenport, said the characters movements were inspired by NASA crews. To him, footage of astronauts always looked like "children exploring a new world".......
That is hilarious.

I noticed that a topic I brought up fairly immediately veered off the road into something else. It seems like there are some on here so eager to get points on the board that they have to comment on everything any unrelated way they can and follow up with more irrelevant comments. I like for people to have fun too, but does it often go that way?
When I get to a thread, it's already been here and there, with whatever comments. I try to address whatever the original poster wants to discuss. If it goes off in a direction I'm not interested in, I just move along.

What I find annoying are the people who have an agenda, whether it be pushing their beliefs about vaccines, religion, or gun control. They take every opportunity to comment on their favorite topic or start threads about things that have already been posted and discussed ad nauseam, and they just keep posting and hammering away. I avoid those threads and those people.

Once you post a thread, it often takes on a life of its own. If you really dislike where a thread is going, you have the option of asking the forum administrator to close the thread or delete it.

Welcome to the forum, Den. ;)

The bolded struck me as rather accusatory. What are "points on the board"??

And just because you start a thread that does not give you any extra editorial rights to decide what is on topic and what is not. Admin will occasionally step in to try to get things cleared up, but it is not "your" thread, and there is no "hijacking".

Those things always weirded me out....🤯

When I started the 'Today in History' thread in 2019, just to have facts with no pictures/ videos everything was going great until a yr or so ago. Two posters without asking me 'hijacked' my thread they included pictures& everything else. I was extremely upset ,I publically blasted them saying they had no right to do this. One of them graciously apologzied, the other didn't. The one who didin't started her own history thread with pictures &everything else
