How "Old Fashioned" Are You?

I'm not sure what is meant by being "Old Fashioned". If you mean being nostalgic over past technologies, maybe. But, ain't no way I'm going without their replacements. If you take away technology, you are left with human behavior. They haven't made any new sins in thousands of rears. We're still working with the same 'old fashioned" ones.

I consider my cell phone as an important safety tool and wouldn't be without it. I'm not much for talking on the phone, but that cell phone has saved me much aggravation and hassle several times -- like once in the snow in a store parking lot when my car wouldn't start, a flat tire, etc. And, this might sound silly, but I live alone and whenever I'm going to have to climb a ladder for whatever reason (even a small stepladder) I call my sister and tell her I'm going to do it and if she doesn't hear back from me in however long, that she should send help to get me off the floor. That's never happened, but it is reassuring to know that somebody else knows I'm climbing up.

I always take the phone with me when I'm out, even just walking the dog around the neighborhood.
I understand that. But what did you do before the cell phone? You've lived this long without it. Right?

I've never had a cell phone. Can anyone else here say that?
ROFLMAO! Me! :)

Does it drive others around you nuts? I can't tell you how much flack I get over not having one. People just can't figure it out, but in my world I don't feel I'm missing a thing. Wasn't interested in getting a cell phone when they first started coming out years ago, and I still remain uninterested.

I never wanted one. I was happy with my land line. I basically have no use for it except that it's cheaper. It's a PITA always needing to be charged and having to dig around in your purse for it and being able to see those little tiny a** screens.
You've summed-up my thoughts to a T!

I always chuckle when someone says to me, "Just put it in your phone."
Years ago, I drove to Lake Tahoe for a friend's wedding - 450 miles each way. A co-worker told me, "Well, it's a long drive through some very isolated areas, but it's a good thing you have a cell phone."
I said, "I don't have a cell phone."
She said, "Are you nuts? What if someone runs you off the road & your car gets stuck in a ditch? Then he could rob & kill you & you wouldn't be able to call the police."
I said, "How would a cell phone keep me safe in that situation? You really think police would get to me in time in the middle of the desert to keep me safe?"
She said, "I guess not."
I said, "What might keep me safe is the .45 I have next to me on long drives."

These days, I have yet to see anyone in the street who's not tinkering with their cellphones. I want to go back to those days without mobile phones where you can have meaningful connections with people without CP distractions.

ROFLMAO! I get that ALL the time! That, or they'll say to me, "just text me". Hilarious how everyone assumes that EVERYONE has a cell phone.

I've witnessed entire tables of people walk into restaurants... entire families, and the instant they're seated, out come their phones and not a word is spoken by any of them. No thanks to that! I don't even want to be around such.

Gotta admit that's a big part of the reason I've never wanted to own a car- the concern that it could break down out in the middle of nowhere, perhaps late at night, and I'd be completely stranded. The other reason is I don't know even the most basic info on car parts, etc., so I'd have no idea what was wrong with it. And I can't seem to get rid of those concerns even though I've owned a cell phone for years.

We're a very technologically modern family here....

I have all the latest gadgets as does my husband... I have a kindle, latest version Ipad, laptop, latest mac Desktop.. latest iphone... smart Tv's..etc...

WE have remote controls to turn on heating, and lights... we have all modern kitchen conveniences

We have the most modern tools which work so much better than older ones, and they have been a boon I have to admit ...

WE have modern cars,

..but although my husband has his beloved vintage camper van as well which he restored himself, he's very much a live in the moment type of guy..whereas I yearn more at times for days gone by.

Despite having the Kindle, I prefer hardback books, and always have 2 or 3 on the go at any one time.. in fact a new one arrived just today. My O/H otoh, wouldn't dream of picking up a book as long as he can read whatever he needs to online...
Oooh know where to come if I get stuck with a bit of todays Tec then! :D :ROFLMAO: :D(y)

@Aunt Marg everyone gets so excited because I don't text. I don't see the point. Pick up the damn phone and call me if you wanna talk so bad.
One reason I prefer texting is recipients can reply when they have time. Another reason is when you can read an incoming text you know if it's something important.
You don't have these benefits with a landline.

Frankly, if I could live with no phone at all I would. I hate phones.

I had that viewpoint for a long time, and for a long time had no phone. Staying connected with family and others makes it necessary, though, at least for me.
I understand believe me. The only reason I have mine is in case of a medical emergency. The only people who call me is my folks and the scammers.

I find myself thinking the same, more and more each day, especially when the phone remains silent for days, and then the silence is broken with a call from a telemarketer or scammer. I've said to dear husband on many an occasion, if it weren't for the kids, I'd rip that telephone right out of the wall.

I think I could deal with technology if it didn't move at such a fast pace. Once I've conquered one bit of technology it appears to be out of date and need upgrading. Upgrading to me means it is not quite like you had before, just a little improvement needed , but it seems to me that upgrade means you have to learn something that is totally different from what you had before. I call that NEW not upgrading!!! o_O Don't mind learning but it's mind boggling. Slow the pace please and I might catch up. I think I've lost the plot. Time to go :ROFLMAO:
