How Old is Your Mattress?

Verisure's post made me think of this. Mine is 20-21 years old. It's one sided. I used to turn it but I don't think I have the strength to do it anymore. It's a queen. I have 4 cat beds/blanket set up areas for the cats. But I'm tired of the big thing.

I have a nice head and footboard and it's a nice bed, but I might downsize to a double with the next bed. Still enough room for the cats I'd think. Plus I'm short. I think the brand is Spring Air. Don't know if they make them anymore.

Picture of headboard and a gratuitous picture of Juniper on one of the cat bed areas at the footboard.

Ours is 20 years old, also one sided...doesn't require turning. Mattress advertisements would have you believe that mattresses *should be* replaced every 7 years...I think the motivation for that advise is obvious. Our mattress isn't saggy or lumpy, still firm, loves brand new still.

My old mattress was over 20 years old with serious depressions worn in it, so I decided I needed a new one. Bought the exact same mattress from the same store and absolutly hated it! Sadly I had already tossed my old one so tried to get use to the new one but just couldn't do it. Then I purched one of those mattress in a box jobs, I think it's a Leesa, it's actually comfortable, I like it a lot.

Just a few months. I had been sleeping on the floor (on rubber mats) previously.

In my mind, it was expensive (CAD 300 for a single mattress). But it's not a good one. I got a memory foam topper, in hopes it will prolong the life of the mattress.

I hope it will last me the rest of my life. Unless I move to the tropics! 🌞

Mine is about 8 years old, a stearns and foster firm pillow top. I got it at a close out sale at Macy's for a very good price. I still love it!! Has held up great but it is heavy, makes it hard for me to changes the sheets.

I've mentioned a few times, Here in the SFBA since the the early 70's in counterculture. If in an upstairs bedroom, sleep on what was a cheap used 5 decade old queen mattress on the floor instead of a bed frame. And no am not embarrassed. That is what many of us did decades ago. If it works don't fix it. Each winter I sleep on plenty of quality mattresses at motels. Not something of importance either way for this person that also sleeps out in wilderness inside tents or cowboy style in open air with views of the universe. So sleeping low to the ground is ho hum. Sleep on my living room couch too. Small folks given less weight pressuring against objects, are less affected by uneven sleep surfaces.

I don't have a mistress.

Oh, you said mattress. Oh, I don't know, a few years now.

I bought this mattress online from Wayfare. It came deflated in an airtight sealed plastic wrap.

It took a week, once unwrapped, to re-inflate and become a mattress again.

There is no reason to be embarrassed. If it works for you. I think my Mom's king mattress was about 50 years old when she came to live with me. The mattress came too! I slept in her room a couple of times when she was ill. That bed still slept the same just like it did when I was a young teen, sneaking into her bed when I had a nightmare.

My mattress is over twenty years old. It's a king size individually wrapped coil mattress.... I think it's a Beautyrest or Serta... I forget the brand. It sags a little, but I think that's more the pillowtop wear than the springs sagging. It's still comfortable, so it's not going to be replaced any time soon.

Ours is also 20 years old, and still doing good. However, its very firm, and was becoming hard to sleep on, as we get older. So, a couple years ago, we got a 3" memory foam topper to put on it, and that helped tremendously. Now, the "bladder" determines how long we can sleep.
I have always liked our mattress' firmness, but I gotta say- during a recent trip to Mexico via L.A. we stayed at a hotel in each location, and absolutely loved the beds, which had some kind of thick, soft top. Is that the memory foam topper you mentioned?

Current mattress: about 7 years. It was a new mattress every 5 years as husband had back problems and insisted that a new mattress had more support.

My mattress is 17 years old, since we bought it new when we bought our house. There is a bit of a "trough" where I sleep but I get a good night's sleep every night.

Current one is four years old. Replaced a 15 year old one. This one was a folded and smushed in a box product. I was skeptical but it unfolded and expanded as promised and I've been pleased with it so far.
