How old were you, when you left your parents home !

I was about 20 when I threw some socks in a bag, and left. Went to the big city, Worcester, Mass. I got a job at Kemps Hamburgers and a room in this dump of a hotel.- $14/week. There was a 70 year old prostitute, Sally. She would get drunk and to drum up business, she'd knock on all the hotel doors. Yeah, I was livin' the life.

My oldest friend worked on the DEW line in Baffin Island in the '60s......9 guys (IIRC), 3 working, 3 sleeping, 3 off. He said they had ropes between huts that you held onto in a blizzard - if you let go of the rope you might never find your way back.
I seen that and something also similar to it.

The first time I was 17. There were several times that I needed a temporary place to stay and the last time I lived with my dad I was about 40 I think. Could have been a bit younger. I stayed 3 months that time.

Functionally, when I was 18, and left for college. I saw the university as my home thereafter, coming back to the parental abode when expected for holidays and for the unwelcome extended summer stays…

I was 24 when I moved out of my parents house, my 1st apt was around the corner from my childhood home
When I moved into my co op apt in 1988, my parents lived in the same building 6 floors above me. We never saw each other until Sun when I would have dinner with them. They lived here from 1986-1992,I'm still here which is 2 blocks from my childhood home

Which time, I kept running away starting in my teenage years then finally enlisted when I was seventeen. After that I came back a few times while going to college then finally made a permanent transition. It was a very tumultuous period in my life. Don’t know how they survived me and remained supportive.

18. I was living in Kuwait with my parents, felt I was missing out on the music scene in the UK at the time... Beatles etc. so I came back to the UK with my best friend and lived in North Wales for 4 years until my parents came home for good. I then moved to England to join them and stayed with them for 4 years until getting married.

I left at 19 as I was pregnant. I married my first husband (what a mistake that was). My Dad had already died the year before. I did move back home for several months when daughter was 3 and hubby #2 ran away to Vancouver.

I planned from age 14 and a half (not very carefully, but I was committed to the idea). Saved my allowance.

At age 16 I could legally quit school, work, and live on my own. So on my 16th birthday I took the bus to the nearest city and got a job and a room.
We are alike!
My brother used to run away but would always be returned so I also plotted from a young age. Started working at 14 doing small jobs saving all I could but that didn't work since she could access my savings account and emptied it. Fearlessly left alone at 17 years old, missed a few meals along the way, married at 21, but now I appreciate my husband and the life I made.
