How Stupid Can a Parent Be?

You have to wonder why that goober would do that with a young child. You can hear his freinds yuckin' it up after the shot. Did he later brag about this to others?

I've met other parents like that. Besides being attention whores, they want to show that their kid is special, smart, can do anything "Your" kids can't, & aren't afraid of anything. And maybe they think it reflects on how great parents they are.
I remember a show called "Real TV." A couple bought their 3-year-old son a mini motorcycle & videotaped him riding it around their driveway. They were taping when he crashed into his father's pickup truck. The wife says, "Is he all right?" The husband picks up his kid who was unconscious with his face covered in blood & says, "No, call an ambulance."
The kid's helmet didn't help much; he had several facial fractures.

I'm ashamed to say this. But watching this kid wildly waving a weapon around, I thought it might be cosmic justice if she shot dear old dad. Not to kill him, but to maim him enough to let the "stupid" out of him. This may take several shots.

Where I used to live there were twin boys maybe 5 years old. They often played around on the tennis court below my balcony. One day they found their dad's 45 cal. and one shot the other in the head killing him. So not only was the gun accessible it was chambered with perhaps the safety off. I often wonder about the surviving boy how the image of the incident exists forever in his mind.

Ya mean, just enough "maim" so he can't have more kids? 😊

Fmdog, I had a 2nd cousin a few years younger than me.... His Mom whopped his and my ass because we were "PLAYING WAR"
Shooting each other with sticks... I was about 10-11 then... She was that antigun....
Fast forward to him at 16, after school at a friends house.....
He picks up the Dads 45 pistol, looked down the barrel and pulled the trigger....
Granted he should have not had access to it, But he should also had been TAUGHT something about guns, not just banned from them.
I mean he was taught not to play in the road.

Some parents aren't very smart. It's a huge mistake to tell a child "Never touch this." That makes it more attractive.

When I was competing in a Metallic Silhouette Match, a father & son (around 7 years old) approached me & complimented me on one of my guns. The son recognized it as a gun he probably saw in a movie & he asked me if he could handle it.
I said, "Yes, if it's OK with your dad." The father said, "NO, I told you to never touch a gun."
I said, "Not to tell you how to raise your kid, but he is missing an opportunity to learn important safety procedures. When your son visits friends at their houses, you have no control over what he handles there & if another child finds daddy's gun, there will be more chance of a tragedy if none of the kids know safe gun handling procedures - especially how to check for ammo."

The dad thought it over & really surprised me when he said, "Well, that's true; I guess it's OK."
After making sure it was empty, I explained that checking for ammo was the first thing to do. While the kid was handling the gun, he pointed it at me & the father started yelling at him. I said, "Wait...what do you expect? You never taught him muzzle awareness." After I explained "Safe Direction," the kid immediately pointed it at a hillside.
I think the father learned a lot that day.

Even more stupid: some parents who say, "I don't have to lock my gun up because I hid it so well, my kids will never find it." When parents are at work all day, kids have many hours to search for things they aren't supposed to touch. I know I did.

I said, "Yes, if it's OK with your dad
I commend you on your efforts.... I also take every opportunity to teach anyone firearm safety.
Our grandson is 9, has a collection of guns that will be his... family heirlooms including his great great grandpas
30-30 and 12 gauge.
He loves shooting his BB gun, and its treated as every other rifle we have.
He knows where every firearm is located we have.
