How the Simplest Things Can be So Relaxing

I was a bit keyed up this evening, not in the best mood...I had a sink full of dishes and the dishwasher was full of clean stuff I didn't feel like

emptying. Then I decided to hand wash the dishes and put them on a towel on the counter...Cleaning them by hand, swirling the water around,

getting them clean...I just found that so relaxing! I wasn't keyed up any longer or in a crap mood either. It's funny how some things can make us relax...

Anything simple relax you?

This is strange, but about a month ago I made the same discovery about hand-washing dishes. Since I used to practically wash everything before I put them in the machine, I thought I'd give it a go. There's just the 2 of us so it doesn't take any longer to wash them than to load the dang dishwasher.

Usually if I'm cranky, I just hole up with a book or something till it passes.

Yeah it really does work!😄

I understand Ruthanne.I don't have a dish washer and not a lot of company for holidays but what relaxes me after everyone is gone is to take a shower, get in my pjs and comfortable slippers, roll up my sleeves and wash and put away all the dishes. I also enjoy straightening out cabinets and drawers which probably is due to my ocd tendencys but I find it enjoyable..

Taking a bath or shower relaxes me, too, Ruth and I'm glad you have found some simple ways to relax, too.

Just for the record I hate washing dishes.. it take me 5 minutes or so... but it's just the monotony of it drives me nuts...(I don't have the space for a dishwasher)... but I'm up for anything that helps you relax so if it works for you Ruthanne, brill!!(y)

For me..relaxing means.. sitting with a heat pad on my sore back and watching some tv shows back to back ..on a rainy day knowing all the chores are done and I don't have to go anywhere..

if my back doesn't need help on a particular day then chatting and playing games on the forum is R&R for me...

Outdoors on a sunny day, nothing more relaxing than being on our narrowboat even if we don't take her out of the marina, just having friends on board , and chatting and having a drink with other boat owners is super relaxing

Crochet. Especially with a pattern that's easy to learn without looking a stitch chart. It's a zen like feeling once you get into the repetitive motion and something beautiful is forming in your hands. I've read it's the same with knitting. Have seen studies that show the relaxation benefits as well as protection against age related memory loss.

I'm thinking of doing that, too.

I completely agree with using music. (y) When I was a child, a friend's Mom always kept the local radio turn on quietly and tuned to classical music. It made their house feel relaxing. Works for me today.

And I do love chopping wood!!! 🌳

Depends on the day.

I love listening to my music on my stereo with the headphones on and turning it up!

I'm with you Ruthanne, on hand-washing and drying dishes.

Always been one of my simple pleasures.

A 2 litre tub of ice cream helps, two tubs are even better, not that I'm greedy, mind you. 😊
