I really wonder, sometimes, just how many Seniors out there are obese......I mean really obese. (/QUOTE]
In this part of the country, it seems that at least 1/2 of the people I see are substantially overweight...both young AND old. There are a couple of good indicators for people to check their weight....the BMI index, and even better, the "Waist to Height" ratio. If a person's waistline is more than half their height, they need to start thinking seriously about changing their habits if they don't want to become a fixture at their doctors office.
After we voted today, we went to the casino, for a free Bruch, and some fun gambling....it was a good day....I broke even, and the wife won almost $200. The casino was full of Seniors, per normal, and I would say that well over half of them were carrying a substantial amount of excess weight. It is pretty obvious that there are a lot of people who spend their days sitting on their Rump....be it in front of the TV, the computer, or a slot machine.
If a person searches the data on the CDC website, it quickly becomes obvious that Obesity is the Number One health issue in the nation....far surpassing smoking, etc...and quickly becoming the Primary reason for our soaring health care costs, and overburdening our doctors to the point where they are increasingly finding it hard to spend the quality time they should with their patients. It seems to be "Politically Incorrect" for anyone to engage in "Fat Shamming", but until our people begin to take a serious look at themselves in the mirror, and resolve to do something about the Gross Image they see, our health care system and costs will continue to spiral out of control. It's pretty much a Given that we spend Twice as much on Healthcare here than most other nations, and the last time the WHO ranked the nations overall health, the US came in about number 35.
