This is very interesting for those who don't already know. if Amazon has sent you a previously returned item, you can tell if you look closely at the barcode...

This is a British Barrister ( attorney) explaining ..how you can easily find out ..

I was interested to know if it was the same code in the USA, so I researched and sure enough it is... so it's a handy thing to watch out for...

That's more complicated than I can manage at the moment, but I'm wondering if it might be an explanation for one product I received around a month ago.

I ordered/received a 12-pack of a canned food product. The box it was mailed in was not damaged in any way, and both the cardboard crate and plastic wrapping inside were both in good condition. However- every single can was dented, most were EXTREMELY dented. So that shows the cans were dented BEFORE they were packed to send to me.

As I've heard it's not good to eat food that's been in dented cans, haven't had time to ask for refund/replacement, the items are still sitting there in the original box.

Not complicated Janice...honestly, just a simple glance at the Barcode.. if the number begins with LPN..or LPN RR..then you've been sent a return...

Now you have to wonder why it was returned!
well sometimes it's fine, it might be the original buyer just changed their minds, or was sent the wrong order , but the point being that if you're item is damaged or doesn't work, you'll be able to see instantly by looking at that code if it had already been returned already damaged ..

It is okay to eat from a dented can. The cans that are not safe are the bulgy ones where air is trapped inside.

Look at your order history and find out the deadline for returning the cans. Either call or do a chat to let them know you got badly dented cans. They may refund your money without asking for the return or they may send you a return label to take to UPS. Are there any near where you live?

If a can containing food has a small dent, but is otherwise in good shape, the food should be safe to eat. Discard deeply dented cans. A deep dent is one that you can lay your finger into. Deep dents often have sharp points. A sharp dent on either the top or side seam can damage the seam and allow bacteria to enter the can. Discard any can with a deep dent on any seam.

I recent bought a somewhat expensive pendulum clock online. The mechanism was broken. I contacted the seller to send it back. The seller said they would ship a replacement, but they didn't want the clock back. They told me to toss it. I thought , hell if I had known that I would have ordered two of them. This is a large, well-known company. I don't know; maybe a "return " is more expensive to get back and process, and it's cheaper just to ship a replacement????

yep sometimes that happens, I had it happen with Ikea...

Great info - thanks.
Luckily, Amazon has a great return policy (at least in my experience). Return shipping is usually free & it's easy; they send a return label. There is also a bar code & you don't even have to box the item; just drop it off at a nearby location.
With 3 items I purchased that I didn't like, they just refunded & said it wasn't necessary to return.

When I order any DVDs from Amazon they come within 2 or 3 days. That is fast delivery! Two weeks ago I ordered some packs of ENO and 8 humidifier filters. I was wondering why the delivery is taking over a month. This morning I checked the "Tracking" on my order and got a bit of surprise. The ENO was sent by India Post. The filters was sent by China Post. Guess that North America can't make ENO nor humidifer filters. I'll leave that for you to decide if this is good or bad!

Thanks, that is good info!

I often buy what Amazon calls used items, I believe they are mostly returns. The discount can be substantial. However sending returned as new isn't great.
