How well do you move?

I’m almost 70. Other than no longer being able to run or jog like I used to, there are no discernible changes in my gait. I’m tall and have long legs, so I can cover a lot of ground when I walk! 😂

I was an athlete as a kid, did some modeling in my teens and learned really good posture, took up ballroom dancing in my 50’s and still do that. I believe all that has contributed to being able to move well and easily as I’ve aged. I also take a variety of supplements targeting my joints, muscles and skeletal system, and I think that helps. I have some arthritis in my hip, knee and shoulder, but moving helps that too.

What about you? How well do you move?

Um.... I'm 58 and it depends on the day(s), really as I have Fibromyalgia and a few other party gifts that affect my joints and muscles to varying degrees. When I can, I love yoga and try to walk every day (especially on car stops). It's been a bit difficult lately (well, last year), but I feel I'm emerging now, getting better and stronger, walking more and getting back to my yoga mat, albeit slowly.

My ultimate goal is to get back to volunteering at the horse farm, that is paradise, nirvana, bliss. It heals my body and soul.

I admire, @Ronni, that you took up ballroom dancing! That has always seemed like so much fun. 💃🏻 😊

I work
Some folks go to gyms to work out
Not me
Tried it
Makes me feel like a gargantuan gerbil on a wheel
So, I just work
More reward

I also walk/hike

More pain now, though
Always had some pain (shoulder, knee from injuries)
But now...more
Pop a Tylenol.....keep going

I've tried to dance
Not becoming

I run like a diseased yak struggling on ice
So
I walk
Smooth stride

I'm 73
so far
so good

Why a diseased yak? :unsure::giggle:

73, with advanced COPD, on oxygen, 45% lung fuction, but I still get around pretty well. Up til last month, I had a horse to keep up with who was geriatric and required extra care, as well as 2 dogs. Also, the mailbox is 300 feet down a good hill, and I hike that. Pitch is about the same as my roof, so its a good climb back up. I live alone and do everything for myself except mow the acre lawn. For some reason the vibration of the mower made me dizzy, so I had to stop. All in all, Id say I do pretty well.

Well, thankfully, at 79 I still move o.k. Try to maintain an even strain. Don't overdo. Don't underdo. Daily flexibility exercises and weight-lifting, 12oz at a time. ;) Dunno. The one probably negates the other?

All kidding aside, every morning I can arise and get out of bed, my day is a success. Hope all of you are as well as you can be and stay that way.

I need to use a walker or a mobility chair now. I have Lymphedema in my legs, ankles & feet. Both knees have osteoarthritis. So I am limited. I used to do a lot of exercise and was a race walker as well as working out with free weights. I worked at some physical jobs, nursing homes and horse barns. Never thought I would end up like this but it could be worst.

Anything this very fortunate senior at age 74 might post would read like a world class brag. A strange side of this is in this nascent telecom era of humanity, I can now point (won't on this board) anyone I meet or the public to my youtube account to physical exploits. That noted, in a decade or two will be no better off than others and none of us will be around in 5 decades.

Best of luck to the rest of you. Life is short, precious...don't waste it.

Not as good as I used to as some have mentioned. After sitting a while at the computer, I'm pretty stiff in the hips and knees, but fortunately, a walk of 20 or so feet usually relieves this. It burns me up to see these exercise ads on TV and young, thin women are throwing their body parts all over the place. If I tried to do that, I'd end up on my bumm. I can walk a mile, but can't even stand on one leg. My idea of a workout is pressing the TV remote buttons.

I have been in 8 car accidents and all but one someone else’s fault. Therefore, I have had back/neck injuries since my 30’s. I have been walking 4 miles a day since age 31. Now I walk 2. I did quit power walking outside after falling and getting a bad concussion. I walk slower on purpose now.

I bought myself a pedal machine and I can get a really good workout getting my heart rate up high and really sweating. I walk my 2 Maltese daily. Between doing all my own housework, walking and the machine I get 10k miles a day. I do have daily pain but have learned to ignore it. Some days are better than others. Ben gay really helps too.
