How will the Supreme Court decide the gay marriage and Obamacare cases?

My bet is that SCOTUS will rule that Obamacare subsidies may continue in all states and that gay marriage should be legal throughout the United States. These are certainly the rulings I want.

How do the rest of you see things turning out?

I tend to agree... But one has to wonder WHY did SCOTUS pick up that ridiculous Obama subsidy case in the first place. UNLESS.. it was to get a final ruling once and for all and stop more frivilous law suits.

A very good question. It's hard to believe that Republican justices didn't fully anticipate all the consequences of upholding the plaintiffs if they took up this case. There certainly was no pressing need for them to accept the case.

One has to wonder what Republicans will do if the ruling goes in their favor. 6 million people thrown of their healthcare is quite a problem. BUT.. I'm sure they have an alternative plan all written and ready to go.................................. yeah.. sure.

Just a quick question.

Why should the Republicans get the job. Obama is still around and should have some ideas of his own that would fit the Supreme Courts rulings. I don't think the courts intent is to destroy the health program but rather to clear out some legal problems.

Because they are the ones who have wanted it GONE... have voted 50+ times to repeal it? Have brought TWO lawsuits before the Supreme Court? Yes.. They want it gone... it's THEIR responsibility to replace it with something that will make the 6 million or so folks keep their healthcare rather than lose it. Do you really think they will go with anything that the President would suggest?

Do you think Obama would sign off on anything the Republicans would offer to him? Looks like a two sided standoff in the making.

I don't know... they haven't really offered anything... Guess we will have to see what they come up with.. Too bad for them that next year is an election year too.. People will be interested in seeing their plan.

I guess the first part is to see if the Supreme Court really wants major or minor changes. At this point I don't remember which of two or three challenges might be the one they are answering.

Well... since Republicans have control of both the House and the Senate, it will be their responsibility to introduce legislation to "fix" Obamacare. Do you see that happening?

Josiah, I hope Roberts will decide sensibly on both issues. I think he is really the key. Based on his previous decisions, it is more likely that he will than that he won't. Fingers crossed.

I don't see the Supreme Court trying to overturn the ACA....they certainly know that such an action would throw our health care system into chaos. Far better to let our Health Care Industry implode on its own...with its soaring costs...until the people get fed up enough to demand Real and Universal Change.

Insofar as Gays are concerned....that is a personal choice they have made, and if they want to live together, they should be able to do so with the same rights afforded to anyone else.

The Republicans, if they cobble together something it will be carefully designed to insure that Obama will have to veto it then the Republicans can blame him for the failure to continue subsidies. Remember what's important to the Republicans is gaining a political victory and humiliating Obama and not the healthcare concerns of six million citizens who will lose their insurance.

This is cobbled up political nonsense. So far the Republicans have been careful to make sure the budgets do go through even when they do not like the way Obama has been wasting money. They do protest and make issues but in the end the budgets do get done.

Only the House of Representatives can appropriate and spend money... Obama cannot spend money that the House does not approve.. But of course you have yourself so convinced that the President is somehow spending vast sums and the poor Congress can only sit back and shake their heads and wring their hands.. it's really quite laughable..

If the house does not agree to spend the money Obama demands, the country goes into shutdown and government facilities close from the public. It has been tried and after a few days, or maybe a week or so, the Congress had to let go and allow the budget Obama demanded get going again. No, I did not miss some of this action. Obama has ways of getting his demands doing what he wants to do. He had shut down some real critical agencies and others were allowed to keep operating.

Another year and 7 months and this particular President will be gone forever. If Hillary wins, she will be a lot better than Obama. But most could be able to say that.
