How would you deal with violent crime in Chicago?

Related - Guardian: Pandemic gun violence surge was not linked to rise in gun sales, study finds.

Gun homicides surged across the United States during the coronavirus pandemic, in the same year that Americans bought a record-breaking number of guns.
But some of America’s leading gun violence researchers have concluded that what might seem like an obvious cause-and-effect – a surge in gun buying leads to a surge in gun violence – is not supported by the data.
Through July of last year, there was no clear association between the increase in firearm purchases and the increase in most interpersonal gun violence at the state level, according to a new study published in Injury Epidemiology, a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
The findings suggest that “we need to be looking at other factors, like job loss, economic change, the closure of schools and community organizations and nonprofits, and civil unrest,” in order to understand last year’s increase in gun violence, Julia Schleimer, the lead author of the new study, said.

Note the Guardian is reporting on a study done by Injury Epidemiology and the study does indirectly suggest remedies. Just another indicator on how devestating and wrong the covid lockdown was.

I suspect that the major rise in gun sales, last year, was related to all the riots and protests that occurred after the Derick Chauvin mess. People watching this stupidity on TV probably decided they needed to protect themselves if such nonsense occurred in their area. The vast majority of gun owners are law abiding, but there are still millions of firearms in the hands of the criminals.

Perhaps the only way to get the criminals attention is to increase the penalties for violent crime, with No early releases....and warehouse them in a facility resembling a WWII prison camp...instead of spending vast sums of taxpayer money to keep them "comfortable".

There was a sheriff in Arizona who ran a prison system that didn't "pander" to the criminals, but the "do-gooders" finally forced him out of office. He had a Very Low repeat offender record.

As taught by our Founding Fathers and by the Bible, no justice no peace {Isaiah 59:8}. Thus, the reason why there is so much crime and social decadence in Chicago is because there is no justice. We have already discussed police corruption which is among the worse in the USA and in the world. But it's more than them - the judges often are every bit as corrupt as them:

It was a Friday, and a group of lawyers--some prosecutors, some defense attorneys--had gathered in a Loop hotel on this day for a bachelor party. But the celebrating stopped when the television news broke this stunning story: For three years, the FBI had been running an undercover operation aimed at Cook County's court system. It featured at least one undercover operative and a listening device in a judge's chambers.

One lawyer in the room--Terrence Hake--was not surprised by the news. Disgusted with the corruption that permeated the Cook County court system, he had become the FBI's mole in its unprecedented investigation of judicial corruption. First as a prosecutor and later as a defense lawyer, Hake had burrowed into the dark side of justice, handing out bribes to fix cases concocted by the FBI.Four months after the Greylord investigation was revealed, the first indictments were announced, naming two judges, a former judge, three attorneys, two court clerks and a police officer. "I believe this will be viewed as one of the most comprehensive, intricate and difficult undercover projects ever undertaken by a law-enforcement agency," U.S. Atty. Dan Webb said in announcing those charges.

The allegations ranged from fixing drunken-driving cases to more serious felony charges. One lawyer was caught on tape bragging that "even a murder case can be fixed if the judge is given something to hang his hat on." By the end of the decade, nearly 100 people had been indicted, and all but a handful were convicted. Of the 17 judges indicted, 15 were convicted. The tally of convictions included 50 lawyers, as well as court clerks, police officers and sheriff's deputies.

Greylord was not the first federal investigation of public corruption in Chicago, but it was a watershed in its use of eavesdropping devices and a mole to obtain evidence instead of relying on wrongdoers to become government informants.

Over the next several years, federal authorities launched similar investigations targeted at corruption in Chicago's City Hall (including Operations Incubator and Silver Shovel), other governmental bodies (Operation Lantern) and organized crime (Operation Gambat and Safebet). Scores of public officials, including aldermen, judges and legislators, were convicted.

Remove all such scum from society, then the city streets will be FAR safer.

remove corrupt cops, prosecutors, and judges

decriminalize drugs

regulate drugs & treatments, sell them at costs lower than street value

impose tax on those not covered under Medicaid or public assistance

provide counseling to those in need of psychiatric care

These steps will effectively bankrupt all gangs who now will not be able to sell drugs because they were lower in cost at a clinic rather than on the streets. The tax imposed will finance the administration of any remedial program. Counseling instead of jail will keep people from becoming violent or troublesome. Then put the real criminals (cops, judges, prosecutors) in jail where they belong. The inevitable consequence will be that the streets will be far safer.

Anyone remember the old Jim Croce song from the 70s, one line of lyrics was “ the Southside of Chicago in the baddest part of town”
This has been a problem for a very long time, it’s part economics, social and education or lack of.

One thing certainly won't help solve the problem - loss of police force. Saw this come across my news aggregator:

FOX 32 reports discusses the staggering amount of police officers retiring in Chicago thanks to the crime, failed Democrat leadership, and even the calls to defund the police. The crime is reportedly “out of control” and further reported is the possibility that “gang members now outnumber the city’s police officers by 10 to 1.”
Gang members in Chicago outnumber law enforcement officers about 9 to 1 — as officers are on track to retire in record numbers this year, police said Wednesday. Police Superintendent David Brown estimated last year that there are about 117,000 gang associates, who are part of the city’s 55 known gangs.
A few here will likely get the urge to disparage the source. Suggest they don't.

I usually don't comment on posts I report, but for you to suggest your source is the problem with your post is disingenuous. The content of the first copied and pasted sentence violates the no politics rule, not the source.

I didn't suggest the source was a problem. What I suggested was the source (quoted as Fox 32) might cause some to get their panties in a bunch, as has happened in the past. What I posted was the first I saw of the information but did check and find it to be reasonably accurate (thus the comment saying don't disparage the source), Perhaps you can explain to all of us how that is disingenuous or political in nature.

You seriously don't see how the first sentence you quoted isn't a violation of the no politics rule?

Having upset some sensitivities and seemingly violated the "no politics" rule by posting somebody else's opinion that happened across my desk, I will try to make amends by giving this a go from another direction.

Chicago Sun Times: Chicago police retirements this year already top all of 2018, could end up among highest ever

I will make every attempt not to mention the specifics of Chicago's incompetent leadership lest it be construed as political. I used the word "incompetent" thinking that a potentially highest-ever resignation of police officers is not the sign of competency.

Chicago, and many of our major cities, are going to face increased crime problems as a result of the turmoil taking place in the police departments. Police are resigning in droves, and there are few being hired to replace them. As a result of these riots and protests, there are probably very few people who would want to place themselves in a position where they might become the next "villain".

As a result, the Only ones who stand to benefit, are the criminals.
