Hubby's total knee replacement surgery...

My husband has been scheduled for TKR on 8/30, but Covid is surging here and all elective surgeries have been cancelled. We've been holding our breath every day wondering if his would be cancelled so when we got a phone call this morning, we were sure that was it for him, BUT, she said she wanted to re-schedule him for the 27th (next Friday) instead of the 30th! The surgeon had to "pick-and-choose" who he wanted to move forward with and my husband was one of his picks. His knee is so bad that the surgeon didn't want to put it off any longer. We're thankful that he'll be able to get this done before all surgeries are cancelled. Just get the vaccine...dammit!

That's great, Colleen! Keep us posted on his progress. My wife also needs knee replacement surgery but she has other issues that are delaying that procedure.

IMO, anyone who refuses to get vaccinated should be moved to the back of the line, no matter how sick they are. Their selfishness is causing other people to suffer.

Colleen; You and your husband have been waiting so long, to get this next step behind, for both of you to be able to do other things.
I am glad they will very likely be doing it, soon now!

Hi, everyone I'm new here.....I would love to get some ideas on how to handle degenerated bones on the knees. I am terrified to have the replacement therapy, bc I've yet to see one female co worker return to work not limping. The injections have stopped working, and the pain meds are useless. I am currently on crutches...any ideas???

@ sallylittle59, Have the surgery and good physio afterwards and stay away from work until you can walk with confidence. Use a wheelie walker until you regain muscle strength. They are great to sit on when you are tired.

Take the pain meds as recommended for at least 4 weeks post op.
Last but not least, physio in a heated pool is great.

I had both knees done, in 2008 and 2010 . Still doing fine. Before that went through taping them, braces etc. My procrastination phase ended the day I started out to the grocery store and had turn around and go home because the right one hurt so much.
Best piece of advice I took before the surgeries was to strengthen the “quads” as much as possible, the strong muscles in front of the thighs as that would make the knee rehab go better and heal faster, and it was true. I used an exercise bike, & a machine called a “nu-step “ at the gym, where you push legs against resistance while seated. And to do the prescribed physical therapy after, even if it is uncomfortable at first. Good luck!

Geezerette, that's what I've always heard that's so awful for knees, hips, frozen shoulders, etc. Not the surgery but the PT! But PT has to be done.
