Huge Protests in the UK

Modern immigration to the United Kingdom - Wikipedia

Of the 1,218,000 migrants in 2023, only 10% were citizens of EU member states.

Around 250,000 people came from India,
141,000 from Nigeria,
90,000 from China and
83,000 from Pakistan.
Around 50,000 people, including those from Ukraine and Hong Kong, came for humanitarian reasons in 2023, down from 162,000 in 2022.[6]

What you have posted seems accurate insofar as it exactly matches the 2023 data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The figure of 1.2 million “migrants” includes people on work visas, study visas, visitor visas, and others who return after their stay. As far as I can tell, it does not include illegal or undocumented immigration, which is significantly lower.

The ONS does not publish statistics on illegal immigration; the Home Office does though. For example, in 2023, around 40,400 people illegally crossed the English Channel in small boats. Data on visa overstayers or clandestine entrants is harder to find. In reality, the number of secret entries to the UK is unknown.

This is a serious question, although I know it sounds dumb. How do all these immigrants, apparently mostly Pakistani, get into England? Are they admitted legally? It seems to me that would have to be the case, as England is an island, and they can't just walk in. And it's a long way to swim.

So if the UK laws are permitting this enormous amount of middle east immigration, my question is: why? Have the British politicians been bought off?

I'm having enough trouble trying to understand what is happening to my own country, let alone yours. Our news is, of course, mainly about our own issues. So forgive me for being so ignorant about this.

Currently, the largest nationality crossing the English Channel is Vietnamese, making up about 20% of small-boat arrivals. In previous years, Vietnamese nationals were a much smaller proportion. Many are assisted by people smugglers, sometimes paying thousands of pounds upfront, with arrangements to repay once they find work in the UK. Vietnam, over 6,200 miles away!

This is one of the main ways people reach the UK from overseas, via France (a report from a few months ago). Needless to say, some of them don't make it across to the other side of the Channel with thair lives:
