Huge Tornado strikes Oklahoma City Suburbs

Utter devastation when I switched on the news this morning

Current reports indicate that at least 91 people, including 20 children, are feared killed by a huge tornado which tore through Oklahoma City suburbs and this number could escalate as rescue workers continue to search the buildings.

Many homes and schools are completely destroyed and the Tornado speed was estimated at up to 200 miles per hour on a track between one to two miles wide.?

Our thoughts are with the people of that region and looking at the pictures the area looks like a war zone.

A survivor of the devastating tornado was showing a news crew the wreckage of her home when she found her pet dog, that she thought had died, amongst the rubble.

We were keeping a close watch on the storms as they were heading our way. Our electric was out for a few hours but we didn't get any damage I know of. Will check outside when it gets light.

My wife has a friend who lives in Moore. I don't suppose there is any way to call there right now.

My heart goes out to all these people living this nightmare. Unfortunately, it's only just begun. After locating and burying all the dead, they have the prospect of being homeless and vulture insurance companies and FEMA to deal with. Heartbreaking and frustrating to have to deal with this on top of everything else.

It is mind boggling to think that there are still many in Jersey who have not been able to resolve the issue with their homes, yet the boardwalk and tourist attractions are up and running...where's the priorities?

Was stationed in Tornado Alley for awhile during my enlistment and it's pretty scary. Never saw anything like this one, though. Talked to the "kids" in Austin and luckily the storms hardly touched them. The destruction and loss of life is unfathomable. My heart goes out to them.

As for the priority of rebuilding tourist attractions over helping people rebuild their lives . . . @#%^&!!!

Been watching this, also. Cannot even imagine - two devastating tornadoes in two days. Losing everything you have; some lost famiy members, some children....unbelievable. l have to wonder 'why'; what is it with this weather, especially this year. I always want to just go and help, but with my age and health, best to just donate something.

I know that the human spirit is very resilient, and after the shock, will spring back and rebuild what's been lost, as they have been doing in Joplin...some of those very people are going there now to see what they can do. You can't replace lives, but do what you have to, to keep on, I guess.

Another thing is, it had to be almost the last day of school; they knew these storms were coming...why not just keep the kids home that day...especially when they apparently had no shelters??!!

We watched the whole thing on Fox News, from before it even started. Fox had their news helicopter just in the right place, at the right time, and said they were watching the storm, and there was a tornado warning for the area. Next thing the tornado formed, and within just a matter of minutes, it was HUGE ! They filmed it going across the farmland, and then devastating the town, and then closed in for the earliest look at the area afterwards. It was unbelievable to just watch it all happen !

I am glad that the first reports that came out were incorrect, and there were not as many lives lost as they first reported, and apparently the 24 kids that they said were drowned, were not all drowned.
I am watching the space weather.com page for updates as the storm front moves through Alabama, but so far we don't have any bad warnings, and hoping this storm has finished doing damage.

They will probably declare it a disaster area in Oklahoma, if they have not already done so, and hopefully, it won't be as hard for these folks, as it has been for the people that were hit by winter storm Sandy last year.

We had bad lightening and tornado warnings in upstate New York last night. Lots of hard rain and sky lit up for awhile. Local TV station actually stayed on air with warnings for about one hour. I took a picture off the TV and posted on Facebook to warn my local friends. Stay safe everyone.....
