We used to get Tropical Storms in South Florida that more were damaging than Hurricanes due to the flooding. We were done with it all during our second Hurricane in 2005 that ripped roof tiles off our house, downed a 2 story tree and left us without power for 4 days. Now we just hear the Tornado sirens in Dallas and hide in the coat closet under blankets as they pass. Very few places are immune to weather disasters these days, but IMO Hurricanes are the worst because there are days of anticipation and preparation whether they hit or not.
I really feel for those who lost their lives in Mexico and hope those on the Gulf Coast are unaffected.
