Hurry Up and Wait

OK, so I don't have anything to do anyway, but I sure dislike waiting on people that I hire to do a job. On Thursday, I hired a company to come and repair the sauna off the master bedroom. The girl on the phone said I could expect someone on Monday and the person will be here between 9 and 12 this morning. No one showed and no phone call. I had to call them just a few minutes ago and the lady told me that it will now be about 2 p.m.

I didn't bother going into the "why didn't you call me?" routine. I just let it pass. What else can we do? So here I am sitting and waiting again. This goes on all the time. I called the cable company on Thursday after we arrived here in Florida. I wanted the technician to hook up a cable connection into one of the rooms. The appointment was for Friday afternoon at 5 pm. They showed up on Saturday at 10 am. The excuse was that they don't have enough help. I can understand that, but please call me.

This is a major pet-peeve of ours, too.

Yes, it's become chronic today, it's as if businesses thrive on putting their customers last.

One doesn't have to look far or wide to be reminded how unimportant we really are, just pick up the telephone and call your cable provider or telephone carrier, and try and get a hold of someone on the line, and don't forget to keep track of the minutes that pass-by while you have the receiver glued to your ear.

That in itself tells me everything I need to know about the shoddy and sub-standard service we enjoy today.

Haha! You should live in New Mexico!
"Ok, I'll be there Tuesday at 2:00 in the afternoon." means not next Tuesday, but Tuesday two months from now.
"I'll do the job for $50.00 an hour." means $50.00 for him and $50.00 for each of the two guys sitting on the back of his truck, who do nothing.
Be prepared for a 25 minute break every hour where he will sit in the shade and drink Gatorade.
Be prepared for "I know I said I'd do it for this price, but after I finished, I think I should charge double what I quoted."
Be prepared for, " Ah, I'll finish up tomorrow or maybe next week."
It's easier to watch U-Tube and do it yourself.

Your post, Gaer, is exactly why hubby does everything in and around our home.

That can be frustrating....especially if you've had to alter your plans, and then they don't show up....or show up hours later. A few weeks ago, a couple of guys dropped by our place, and wanted to know if I would let them cut down some of the big Walnut trees we have. They offered a nice price, so I said OK. They day they were supposed to show up, they didn't...and no phone calls....while I waited all day. They called a few days later with some lame excuse, and I said "forget about it"....I don't need money that bad, and it irritated me to wait around all day doing nothing.

On the flip side, when we had our roof replaced a couple of years ago, they were supposed to show up at 8AM. They were here at 7:30 and dived right in. By the end of the 2nd day, they were done, and did a great job. In addition, they knocked several hundred dollars off the price because I picked up all the old shingles with my tractor, and hauled them to their dumpster....saving them a bunch of time and work. Now, That's the kind of contractors I like.

Yeah, "It'll be finished by Thursday". I found out you have to pin them down, there are 52 Thursdays in a year. I haven't yet met a contractor, who promises on his mother' grave that he'll be here on Monday, But, wouldn't you know, his truck broke down. That damn truck never starts on Mondays. It always works when he picks up a check.
.

If I need to make an appointment for someone to come to the house, I ask for a window of time if I can like from 10 AM to 12 AM for instance, otherwise I'll be out.
