I’m seriously considering getting a ‘new’ Saxophone

Dearheart,I have not the FOGGIEST idea of how to get a photo into a post....especially on this Mac Pro thingy. The sod seems to do what it likes.
So I'll just say, anticipation of your beloved sax arriving home in full-on 'play me' mode, will have you grinning in a fashion that will show the world ALL SIX of your teeth!
Plus...you KNOW,deep inside, where your soul resides, that it's the one sax you want. All others are-and will always be-''Wannit now!'' temprary replacements.
You also know that you'll fall out of love with that replacement-which in turn will mean you taking up the electric triangle. [NOT easy, that!]
My two favourites are the Horner I mentioned...it'll plug in and rock,it'll play acoustically and just emote,or it'll just saunter along as I let it decide what happens next.
My favourite Bass is my 6-string Peavey. Again, getting on a bit, seen too much studio work,etc-but to this day still note & tone perfect.
So...you get yourself puffing and wheezing into your hearts best musical friend,Honeybee...and it will repay you in chuckles and happiness.
...which is what you deserve, for being honest enough to admit you almost threw your best friend aside in favour of an imitation-but DIDN'T! :love_heart:

Photos. I’m not sure how a MAC works. I’ve got an iPhone ( Apple) and all I do is click the framed tree icon which gives you a choice to pick from your computer. I pick my photo library. You might have to crop your pic some to upload since it has to be within a certain size.

Yes music certainly stirs my soul and I wasn’t planning on tossing my beloved saxophone aside. I just wasn’t sure the musty smell could be taken out if my old saxophone but it’s gettkng better already. It was mainly the case that was bad. I’ve decided to get a complete overhaul. All the leather pads will be replaced, new corks, missing felt pads added and then I have to get my gold plated mouthpiece off the neck of my saxophone. It’s seized on so I think they will have to strip the cork off to get the mouthpiece off and then replace the neck cork. It’s going to cost between $750 and $1,000 but I’ve had this for 45 years now. I paid $400 and it was already 20 years old. My husband could tell right away that I didn’t like that modern saxophone and he was right.

Doesnt a bass guitar normally have 4 or 5 strings. My deceased brother used to play Rickenbacker bass guitar and loved it. He had a Fender too and a ukulele and banjo.
My favourite is still a good acoustic guitar.

Years ago I purchased my husband a handmade guitar for his birthday and it took me years to get it for him because I was saving small bills and change. When I finally got the money to purchase it , the day I went was very stormy. I went in and told my husband I’d been in an accident then opened the van doors so he could see his brand new guitar. The look on his face was priceless.

Later on once I get at practiced up I will try and video myself playing but not so you can see me face on and definitely not a utube video. That’s far too out there for me. :hide:

Yuss,Toots, most bass guitars have four strings,a few have five.
The Peavey i own has six AND it's a left-handed edition AND it's signed.

So yah boo sucks to the haters.

Oh...and did I mention my admiration for your decision not to put your moosh on Youtube?

VERY noble of you,Dearheart...there are enough frightened children out there already, without you adding to the tota...er...I mean-JOLLY good of you, milady!!!

My current saxophone was made in 1953 and is a well made instrument that’s made in Paris France.
Its one of the worlds finest makes but I’ve had it since 1973 and it has been stored in our basement which leaked due to my husband attaching a deck without flashing, so it’s on the stinky side, which is a huge turn off.

Its had 3 major overhauls already and it would cost approximately $1,000 Canadian plus I’d need a new case too. Even with a complete overhaul I’m not sure if it will completely eliminate the mouldy smell so I am actually considering getting a new one. I’ve checked out some used ones but I might splurge and spring for a brand new Yamaha one. It’s pretty sweet and is an Intermediate Level one which is where I’m at.

Two keys from my old one don’t work and it’s a tad annoying but to play again is pure delight.
Last night I played Silent Night and it felt pretty wonderful.

Heres my old saxophone View attachment 59817

Heres the model and make I would like. This one is selling for 1/2 price BUT is a 10 hour round trip drive.

It comes with a beautiful carrying case and a saxophone stand. It’s apparently only 2 years old but has already had two owners who haven’t been interested in it. It’s been listed for 7 weeks. When I asked why it hasn’t sold yet I was culled it’s because he won’t sell it for the price they wanted and he’s willing to let it sit for another year or two rather than sell it for less.

Any thoughts about this?

Go for it.
I use to skate all night and liked dancing on skates to this song. We had all night skates and they would lock us in till parents came after in the am.

I just realized this was soundtract for Benny Hinn too.LOL.

Nope! :whome: I don’t do utube or Facebook. That’s a bit overindulgent even for me. :turnaround:

Thats fabulous.

Just for the record, I sound nothing like this.

I haven’t been posting as much lately because I bought THIS last Friday. My new toy.
Its kept me well entertained so far and I just LOVE it. When I get a decent enough sound, I will upload something or at least I’ll try. I don’t have internet so I’ll have to go somewhere that does.

Here is one picture of it so far. I’ll post some more later. E53CE696-2F80-4AE2-A9AE-F1C71AE43317.jpg

This Christmas was one of the best most memorable Christmases ever.
My brother cooked a turkey , we cooked a ham, made all the gluten free things including devil’s food cake, gingerbread cookies, gravy, potatoes , vegetables and everything else. They stuffed their faces gleefully.
We got them a few gifts and of course had those crackers with the silly hats which we wore including my parents. The crackers really added to the special day. My father got 2 little screw drivers and they were tickled pink. They are very childlike at this age. It’s actually very cute and touching.

When I started playing my saxophone downstairs, apparently my dad said it sounded really nice and apparently was really shocked when my brother said it was me and that I’d asked him to bring up our instruments to play some Christmas carols. He was thrilled and started singing.

We wete playing by ear and didn’t know every Christmas Carol so my mom said there was music in the piano bench but it was only the words to certain carols. He wanted us to sing and play at the same time. It’s one of those fun but sad things that I could cry about for hours but try not to. I forgot to ask my husband to take pictures of us playing our instruments but I got too excited that I forgot. My antlers kept getting caught in the hanging lights.

I made my mom her own tin of gluten free cookies. I’ll add a pics of some more of the cookies later. Right now I’m ready to take a nap. I’m exhausted. I just wanted to let you know how much fun it was. My parents were over the mom. They have been going to Florida since ‘80’s but now their insurance is too much and at 89 it’s dangerous driving down.

I didnt use the fine China. Their dish washer doesn’t work and nobody wants to was all those dishes.
It was so fun bringing joy to these people who are joyless. They watch are dogs open their Christmas stockings and got a real kick out of it.

Busted my ‘new to me’ soprano saxophone. It got knocked over onto the hardwood floor.😩 Some important keys are bent so don’t work properly. It needed some work anyway so I researched the best sax technician in my area, got the email and sent a request.

This morning I got a reply and a fix date of when it will be serviced and it’s THIS Friday.
I’m so excited. 🥳I’m missing playing something awful. It’s one of my favourite outlets.

One of the best techs. I’m so grateful & can’t wait get this fixed as well as my 65 year old alto.
I’m taking them both in. 😁
Yayyy. 🙏

Today I went to drop off my saxophone to get fixed but I didn’t leave it where I originally intended. For some reason I felt uncomfortable. It was a person’s house and I was by myself so I passed and took it to the largest music store in North America.

It had its own percussion store , a stringed instrument store a big band instrument store, a music section store all within a huge mall which had its own instrument repair shop as well as a sit down cafe and a Starbucks Coffee Shop.

It turns out that my saxophone isn’t as bad as I thought and will cost a lot less than I expected.
Yayyy! I decided not to fix the alto right now. I like the soprano more so will probably play it more plus I want to save for Band in a Box and some type of computer that will support it. That way I can start recording my own music.
