I Absolutely Love Pasta

When the kids were little and we were poor, I would frequently make a pasta dish that they named Mamaroni. ❤️ Cooked noodles sauted with oil (butter if I could afford it) onion and garlic powder, pepper and some fresh garlic, and when some of the noodles got ever so slightly crispy, I’d add some Parmesan ( the kind from the canister) and mix that in.

Served with toast sprinkled with Parmesan. Again depending on finances, I might sauté some chicken or mushrooms or both, but mostly it was just the noodles. They and I still love Mamaroni and it’s sometimes requested as a birthday dish, or I’ll get a call from one of the kids who need a reminder as to how to make it.

Nothing but carbs in that dish, but when there’s no money you make do!

Sounds good.

A friend once told me to only buy pasta that has been imported from Italy. (Instead of made in USA) . That they use a different flour and the flavor is better. True? I don’t know.

I started doing that and do think the flavor and texture is better. But I don’t know if I’m just being affected by the power of suggestion
I watch for imported brands to go on sale.

Do y’all have any brand preferences?

Another pasta fan here!

Lately I’ve been experimenting with Asian pasta.

Still taking baby steps, not sure that anything I make is authentic but it is tasty.

The pictures aren’t mine.

Start with a trip to your favorite Asian restaurant before investing in a bunch of new and different ingredients.

Me too! I love it so much and would eat it nearly daily if I could get away with it. Angel hair pasta with a good red sauce. 🥰

I love Chinese pork dumplings......

I'm not a big pasta fan..I really have to be in the mood for it... a bag of spaghetti, macaroni, & Penne lasts about 3 years in my cupboard

When I lived in Northern Italy, I can't say that the spaghetti or any pasta tasted better than the pasta we have here.. but of course when I ate pasta it was always in the restaurants , so the dishes were all made fresh, so lasagne as a whole dish tasted nicer... and spaghetti was almost always served as a starter just cated in Olive oil... ... witha side bowl of Bolognese... ...the one thing that is without a doubt nice in Italy...is Pizza... I know that's not Pasta... but they make huge Pizzas' expect you to eat this whole thing after they've served the pasta as the starter... and it's amazingly cheap.

Here a big Pizza will cost about £20-£25 each from the pizza restaurant and more for added toppings........ in restaurants there outside of tourists areas in places like we lived in Brescia... Pizza is the Equivelent of £3.00

LOVE pasta. However I do not like the over the top rich things like alfredo. One or two bites is enough for me. I do make some similar sauces but I back off that richness. Or something overly cheesy and rich either.

Other than that, I make some sort of pasta dish quite a bit. I change such up though. Just whatever I feel on the day I make such.

I'll go a Cajun route, an Italian route, etc., etc. Change the proteins..

And pasta is pasta some would say but it's not... Sure one can interchange it but some depending on the dish give it an entirely different experience. And of course things like bronze cut or tortellini and ravioli are another story too... Lots of versatility, and major carb but I can't imagine not having pasta...

The closest thing to a grain at all, let alone pasta, that my huzz will eat is white (heavily processed) rice and only with butter and sugar on it...ugh. The more I think about it, he has the palate of about an 8-year-old.
My daughter is married to a guy who I think highly of BUT he is a picky eater and she is not... I mean VERY picky. They have a great marriage, he is such a good guy but if there is any issue it is THAT. She eats a wide variety and is adventurous as well, I mean if they take trips with friends, all others will try this or that but not him, better be a taco (not an odd one), a pizza or a burger pretty much... He doesn't eat pasta, nor rice nor a lot of things. Interestingly though he loves SPICY. Lol. So long as it's on the right food...

They will do just fine but she does tire of it as far as like what should we have for dinner... All else is great. But she loves pasta, soups, rice, different cuisines, etc. but he doesn't.

I love the guy in almost every single way, man he's been a great SIL, but with regard to what he will eat... Not so much lol.

So when she visits me, I generally cook something and she asks me to make this or that or that and that lol. Or the rare time he is out of town, she indulges in what she likes.

Also I watch cooking shows and YOYO is something more than one show does with family once a week at least. Kids, spouses, etc. Meaning You are On Your Own. Each family member eats what they want whether a bowl of cereal, leftovers, mac and cheese, a sandwich, or you name it. I told daughter she needs at LEAST one YOYO night a week so she can indulge in pasta or something she likes.
