I am going BACK to cable TV

Several years back, we cut the cord and got all our TV off antenna, HULU and Amazon Prime. It was OK, but very often we kept having to adjust the antenna. Plus there were many cable channels I missed.

Recently when talking over my new normal as far as finances went, my brother asked what I was paying for Internet and my land line. Just over $100 a month. He told me to look into a simple cable package, with internet, phone and cable. $125 a month. So, for a extra $25 I can get cable.

My brother is very smart as far as financial things go. And I trust his input, for many reasons. So, next week I am back on cable. I do watch a lot on TV, especially in the evenings. It is my entertainment. I do not drink, gamble or anything like that.

So, I am pleased with that,

Just make sure it's not want of those introductory offers where they lowball you for the first 6 months and then jack the price way up after that. I get one of those in the mail every couple of weeks. Funny thing, they always say it's my last chance to take advantage of this limited time offer.

I did ask. No contract, but price is set for a year,.Then next April, I can and they will see if I can hook up with any other promotions. PLUS, since I was a prior cable customer, free instillation. A good thing, I knew exactly the package I wanted before I called. So I basically said I wanted the select package. The only upsell she tried was a sports package. I declined.

Seems like the bundled services are always a much better value. We have had Comcast "triple play" for several years now. A year or so ago I thought about cutting the cord and priced internet and phone separately...it was an eye opener. We stayed with the bundle. :D

A couple of weeks ago, the wife and I spent the day at one of the granddaughters house, to watch the little kids, while she and her husband went to the hospital for a minor surgery. We took the kids to school in the morning, then picked them up in the afternoon. During the day, I decided to watch some TV....they have Amazon Prime. What A Waste!! I spent an hour going through their selection of hundreds of shows/channels, and found almost nothing worth watching. I couldn't even find any news or weather channels. I don't know what level of service they have, or how much they are paying....but IMO, $10 a month would be excessive. At least they have internet service, so after an hour of frustration, I got on their computer.

We had satellite TV for years....no cable out here in the boondocks. Then, a couple of years ago, our local electric Co-Op strung fiber optics throughout our area, and offered TV,(230 channels) phone and Internet for $135/mo....about $25/mo less than we were paying Dish and Windstream, so we switched. Wow...if you ever get a chance to go with fiber optic TV, go for it. Our Plasma TV is about 10 years old, but with fiber, the picture is as good as some of the expensive new tv's with much higher resolution. The phone is crystal clear, and I get consistent 100MB internet service, upload and download....whereas with Windstream, it was a good day when I could get 10MB.

.
I will admit Rick watched more of the Amazon Prime content than I did. He liked a lot of the old series, and British stuff. But I have found a lot of documentaries and that type of content. But I do not like it well enough for it to be my sole content of streaming shows.
I will admit to missing my CNN and MSNBC on cable. Especially during significant news events over last few years, when I wished I could just turn on the TV to watch the news, rather than having to fire up computer.
