I am new to bird watching

that's correct. I have lots of Pigeons..wood pigeons, collared doves who visit my garden every day..they give birth in my tree, and coo all day from the roof of the house, or in the trees... they are not interested in any kind of bird box or enclosure. They make a nest on a branch usually high up in the tree.. and stay as still as possible until they give birth usually 2 weeks...

This one was deep inside one of my trees.. and very high, she thought she couldn't be seen but I've mastered the art of being very quiet, to get shots of the birds.. but here she is on one of the many nests they build every year..

Thanks for the added information about pigeons.
I am going to carry on and be happy with any birds choosing the nest box.

A few weeks ago I weeded out of my potted herbs (bird seeds that have sprouted). I placed them in a bucket, but forgot to dispose of it. Fortuitously, those weeds have dried and seems like a good medium for a nest filler. When the nest is ready, I will put two or three strands in the box, as a starter (read that in a book). But most of it will be spread around outside and nearby; so the potential nester can use it to how they want to.

^^^You do realize you've jumped the shark?

Perhaps there is some native species of mammals, birds, or bats that need assistance w nests where you can apply your obviously great talents and abundant energy.

Perhaps with the crested pigeons, but maybe not with other birds. If you are referring to the classical doll house look of a nest box, each part has its purpose.

In regards to making nest boxes, I am only building one. I am too much of a tinkerer to build any more.

Thank you for the links.
The first link has a broken link address, but here it is for those who may be interested
