I am not a big fan of going to the dr but taking the plunge due to issues with left hip..Sciatica, Arthritis?

I remember my mom used to have a small hard thing that I think was to help sciatica pain, it looked a little bit like this amazon trigger point thing. I think it was just to press where there was pain and after a minute the pain would go away. But, I'm not sure.

Thank you. I checked it out - they are currently out of stock and not sure when it will be available. I will look to see what else they may have that is similar. Thanks again 🙂

Sorry to hear you're in such pain Ladybj. I wondered about those SalonPas and the stickiness, thanks for the info. My husband regularly uses Therma Care Wraps, they stay warm for over eight hours and he says they help his hip/leg pains.

This is expensive, but I have two jars at home, they last a long time. It's CBD balm that you apply topically, recommended here years back by @Gary O' . There's the link in my post #7 in this thread. It smells great and I always get that specific type and potency, been using it for years on my back, neck and whatever needs it. Just used some last night for my neck pain.

Thanks a bunch SeaBreeze. I will check out the Therma Care Wraps and CBD balm on Amazon.

We bought mattresses from them in 2014ish and within a couple years they were sunken in the middle. We're not heavy people. We paid $1000 a piece for twin size and thought they would last us several years. I'm thinking about buying a Purple mattress for myself. Friends of ours has had theirs for at least 6 years and they are still very happy with it. I remember when my parents bought new mattresses and they lasted 20+ years. Everything is disposable these days :(
I agree...they do not make mattresses like they use to. I was thinking of getting a firm mattress but not sure if it will be too hard on my back. The mattress I have is semi-firm...which is comfortable. Maybe its the way I sleep...I dunno.

I had one of these recommended to me. At first, I thought it was going to be nonsense, but I got one and it worked for me.

Our local drugstore carried it. It took a few hours to make a difference, but it did the trick.

Only a doctor can tell you what’s going on. Dave had a hip replacement a couple years back and now he has no more pain. Recovery time was about 6 weeks.

My hip replacement was such a relief from the constant hip pain. My surgeon did say that I should look after it, no impact exercises, like jogging. Swimming and cycling are just what the doctor ordered.

UPDATE:
I went to the dr on Monday (Feb 13th). Diagnosis was Muscle Spasm lower hip area. As I figured, she gave me a script for Robaxin and sent me on my way. I thought she would at least take an Xray. She had me lay flat on the table bring my left leg over and twist..which felt like a pulled muscle. She had me do the other side which was fine..no pain. She seemed to know immediately what the issue was. Had a feeling it wasn't anything too serious. But glad I took the plunge and went.

Not a fan of Robaxin. I took it years ago after a minor auto accident. However, went ahead and gave it a try...it's not for me. My body is pretty sensitive when it comes to meds. But I do take 1/2 valium at night if I wake up in the middle of the night and can't sleep. It helps muscle stiffness/tension as well. My hip/leg is beginning to feel a little better. I try not to sit long periods of time... I also use a heating pad on my lower back near my hip. A glass of wine with dinner helps relax my muscles as well. At this point, anything that helps to relax my tensed muscles/spasm. Thank you all that responded and some of you gave some great suggestions which I will check out. Much love 💕

I need that heating pad I saw for neck and shoulder :D

My left hip has been giving me problems. My lower back is not in pain but I am sure the pain in my hip is stemming from my lower back. Its not a horrible pain. If I sit too long I feel it when I walk. Salonpas pads were helping but after a few days of use, the sticky substance started irritating my skin. My self dx is either Sciatica, Osteoarthritis in my hip, pull muscles from stretching wrong, need to purchase another mattress?? I sleep pretty good at night...no pain. When I get up in the morning and walk is when I feel it... also if I sit too long during the day. I get a little relief when I shower in the morning.

When I massage the back of my lower back, I can feel what feels like tension knots. I use a heating pad which helps a little...I take Tylenol sparingly. No horror stories but can anyone relate? Is this part of aging??? If so, I did not get the memo..:ROFLMAO:

Time for me to get up from posting.. If I move a certain way while sitting, I can feel it. Looking for all suggestions. Surgery is not an option. Thanks to all that took the time to read my post ❤️
My litany of ailments is long and I absolutely hate going to the doctor. I'm also needle-phobic. I'm a diabetic but control it with pills instead of insulin. I have foot neuropathy that gives me fits. I have Bursitis in my shoulders. I'm a side-sleeper which is problematic now. Recently diagnosed with Pleurisy (fluid around my lungs), minor gallstones, possible GERD or ulcer, and some problem with my abdominal aorta. I have a boatload of referrals to deal with including Cardiologist, Pulmonologist, Gastro (upper and lower GI) and have started injecting myself with prescription B12 for low red blood call count. All of this just came about in the last 3 months.

My (somewhat successful) solutions or actions to alleviate certain pains have been a 2" latex mattress topper, a shiatsu with infra-red heat back thingy and I must now be very careful what I eat and how much at a time. Until all of these upcoming procedures are completed, I must move slowly and not exert myself. I now feel like some invalid shuffling around my own house. A lot of consternation. Not really depressed (yet), so I live by "it is what it is." I used to hate that phrase. Not so much now.

Ladybj, I have essentially been dragged, kicking and screaming, into old age and all the associated downsides. My late father used to say to me, "Son, they say these years are the golden years, but don't let that fool you, golden is also the color of urine (not his exact wording.) 'Nuff said." I finally understand what that meant. Ha!

I am so glad I've found a forum of like-minded smart people. I appreciate all of you!

WOW David. You are going through a lot. I like your spirit... try not to get in a depressed state. I pray you keep your uplifted spirit...it will surely help you along the way. Through the years, I've eaten a bit healthy. I gave up beef and pork many years ago. I love my fruit and veggies. Tried smoking cigarettes when I was younger...that did not last too long..soo glad I gave it up. To a certain degree, no matter what you do, those "golden" years will find ya...lol. I don't mind aging, no need because its going to happen with or without my permission. I just want to feel as best I can during the process....this is why I am not a big fan of several medications. However, I do understand they are a necessity for some people.

I read this about a 96 year old man:

Doc: You are in good health for your age, what is your secret
Older gentleman: I stayed away from doctors. 🤣🤣

My mom was not a big fan of going to the doctor...she lived to be 84 yrs young, She started having issues, as far as I know, in her "golden" years around the age of late 70's. However, I do remember she use to lay down a lot prior to age 70. Not sure why but now that I am aging, I can understand. I told myself as long as I am able, I will stay active. Even if its just going to the grocery store, cooking, etc.. No matter how much my hip, leg act up.. I refuse to allow it to get the best of me and have me laying down. I appreciate you David, thanks for sharing what you are going through. Makes what I am going through more like a stumped toe. Hang in there 💕

I am relatively new to this forum, but Just to update everyone here, on Feb 24th I went through a quintuple open heart bypass surgery following a severe heart attack a few days before. I came through it okay, but it has been rough. It has been a life changing event for me, forcing me to re-evaluate my life and priorities. Not sure where all of this will lead me, but I am trying to be a better man, a better human being and a more spiritual being.
Thought I would just let everyone know. thank you.

David, you are doing everything you can to improve your life. That counts for everything. I wish you well. 🤗

In recent years I have been managing a lot of different aches and pains. However hips are not a problem, yet. My general experience is that there is no one fix all answer. Sometimes it just goes away, sometimes the right physical therapy works, sometimes you need surgery and so on.

I have have most of my success in talking with my doctor, seeing a good orthopedist and for some things physical therapy. To make it work however you need to be engaged, none of the folks you talk to really know you and how you feel as well as you do. With physical therapy I have found that it can only teach the exercises needed. If you don't do more of what they teach you on your own and after the therapy ends you are just wasting time. And physical therapy does not always work.

Oh, and whiskey always works, but not for long...
Is this part of aging???
Yep, I'm pretty sure it is. Best of luck to you, I think you can figure this out, or figure out how to better manage it anyway.
