I believe I'll be a pescetarian

You are missing out, and because they are so small their flesh has not absorbed any Mercury or other nasty substances...

My middle daughter pigs out on them she loves them. I may try them out.

Canned sardines have always been available in oil, tomato sauce or mustard sauce.....I've always liked the ones in mustard sauce with a handful of saltines.

mmm-boy. Love sardines, right from the can, but they're good for punching up a salad too...like, a chef salad, except my mother always said never have fish with eggs. Chicken eggs, that is. She saw me put chopped boiled eggs in my tuna salad and freaked out.

To the poster who said fish can cause iron deficiency - I was told exactly the opposite (by a doctor, not my mother).

I guess I'm a sort of flexitarian. I hardly ever eat red meat, unless I'm at someone's house and they're cooking burger or steaks for dinner; then I quite happily eat it. Usually I eat chicken or fish, but many times I do meatless. I just feel better if I don't eat a lot of red meat.

Highliner is the big frozen seafood producer in Canada. Imagine my surprise in finding out that they process their fish in China.

I loved their Market Cuts Salmon till I found this out.

Annie, a nice prime rib is my favorite. And I buy frozen shrimp from all over the Far East, it is the only way that I can get it....

'Five out of the eight tuna species are at risk of extinction, conservationists warned today, as they called for urgent action to tackle over-fishing.
The latest assessment for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) showed that three species are threatened with global extinction, while two more will be under threat without action to help

them...The study said some of the species were heavily over-fished, with little interest in conserving them because of the high commercial value of the catch.

There were also difficulties in regulating the multinational fisheries which exploit the stocks.
IUCN experts warned that all three bluefin tuna species – southern, Atlantic and Pacific – were susceptible to collapse because of pressure from fishing for the high-value fish.
Southern bluefin tuna are already critically endangered, the highest category of risk, and Atlantic bluefin are endangered, the assessment for the IUCN red list of threatened species found.
Bigeye tuna are vulnerable to extinction, while yellowfin and albacore tuna are close to being under threat, or will be threatened with extinction if conservation measures are not put in place to turn their fortunes around.
Among other species, blue and white marlin were both assessed as being vulnerable to extinction, putting them in the third of the three most serious categories for threatened species and at risk of dying out globally..'

Any concern for the disappearance of tuna species?

I adore any kind of fish...But our fish tank faces the kitchen table and sometimes it does feel weird, those are pets and this is dinner...then again they eat fish flakes so they're basically cannibals...I tend to overthink things;)

chickens will cannibalize each other if they don't get enough daylight OR if there is a sick one in the flock

I've been a vegetarian since my early 20s, now nigh on 45 years, on the rare occasion have tried a bit of meat and fish, but I find I can do without them completely now. So its veggies and legumes for me and some dairy. What I found is that it helps to do this with friends of like mind, because like smoking, you might find it a hard and lonely road as some meat eating friends might not be supportive of your goals.

I'm not really sure how I'm going to go about doing it yet. I still have groceries to finish first. I'm really only around my family & they will be supportive. We have been supportive of my youngest daughter for years.

Your very fortunate to have a great supportive family BW. When I started out, I had a big network of vegetarian friends, but my family thought I had gone crazy. Times have certainly changed for the better in this regard and it is very acceptable.

BW, when I chose to go vegan I did lots of research to find out about nutrition without meat and dairy, but you're not giving up dairy so it's a bit easier.

Yes I imagine it was bad when you started.
