I Can't Find One Of My Credit Cards

I used it last Friday and I last remember seeing it on my table because I meant to wipe the aluminum covering it's in with disinfectant. I waited a day after I realized I misplaced it, went on Chase's website and froze the card. A Netflix payment is due tomorrow and according to the site, recurring payments are not affected by the freeze. If I don't find it in a reasonable amount of time, I'll report it missing and they'll send out another.

My sister told me she misplaced her debit card earlier this month and was going to the bank to get a new one. Have you ever misplaced your credit or debit card?

Yes I have and it was a real nuisance while I went bonkers looking for it. As it turned out, I was a bit careless when I thought that I was slipping it back into my billfold. I finally found it under my front seat.

Me and my wife have gone through that also. We order new cards with different numbers on them. Then when we find the old card we cut it up nd throw it way. Also I am wondering if the credit card company will call you if someone tries to make a purchace with the old credit card number?

I think the bank would just refuse to authorize the purchase with the old card number.

A couple of years ago,I went to make a purchase at Kmart and realized my debit card was missing. I had gone to Wells Fargo prior to that to make a deposit and figured I must have left it in the ATM.It was clear across town. So I used another card and then zoomed across town to see if my card had been turned in. Pulled into the same parking spot where I had parked earlier and there was my card laying on the ground. Must have set it on my lap for some reason. I was lucky that day!

If a card company offers the ability to freeze... I keep my cards frozen. I keep all credit bureau accounts frozen. I don't worry too much about finances since no one can open an account without a credit check.

Thank goodness my bank offers a "temporary" freeze on a card. They'll ask you for your last confirmed use and then will stop any charges that come in after that. You have something like 24 hours to either remove the freeze or cancel the card and get a new one. I've used that twice when I was pretty sure I had left it at a store. In one case, I found it in my car, under the seat.

I try so hard to put my card back in the designated slot in my wallet immediately but on occasion, my mind goes walk-about and I lose things.

The old numbers should be dead

If someone should find a lost credit/debit card, they may not be able to make large purchases BUT they sure would be able to use it at fast food outlets.

A couple of times I've had people try to use a card number of a card that was still in my possession. The first time I assumed they scanned the card somehow. Bank of America notified me that a small charge and one to purchase airline tickets had been declined. The second time, was with Chase. I forgot whether I got a text or email. Again, I still had the card in my possession. I believe that time my card number was randomly picked somehow because by then all my cards were in aluminum casings and an RFID protected pouch until ready to use. Each time the banks cancelled my cards immediately and sent me new ones.

MS, it is still a nuisance when this happens and the frequency seems to be increasing. Getting through to the bank through their phone maze is a very irritating event. I tried to log in one of my online accounts this morning and found that I was “locked out.” Getting through to a human was time consuming to say the least.

A couple years ago I used the ATM at the super market, then got a cart and started grocery shopping. Pretty soon I heard my name called on the loud speaker to come to checkout #1. A checker had retrieved my card from the ATM when the machine started beeping loudly after i walked away. If the checker had not rescued my card, the ATM would have eaten my card after another minute or so.
I think I love her. 💕

Yes....cancelled both of them immediately and was sent new ones.
Of course I found them eventually...inside the sleeve of a coat. How they got there is a mystery!
