I can't get used to piercings.

who is denying anyone a choice? is somebody saying everyone has to get a tattoo or a piercing or on the flip side, that nobody else should?

I think it is fine to have a personal preference or an opinion - eg "I prefer or am attracted to, people without tattoos or piercings" - that is different t o judging people - you have tattooos/piercings so you must be a bad person/uneducated/whatever the judgement is.

I think we're in violent agreement. I think we have preferences because of judgements we've made.

It's likely very nice people get face tattoos, for example. But seeing someone I don't know, I'll make a judgement about them. I can't see them as I do everyone else.

I remember, years ago, talking to a lady at one of my accounts. She had a daughter who had a tongue piercing, which got infected. The girl had to have most of her tongue removed, and would probably have trouble eating for the rest of her life.

@ VaughanJB I dont like face tattoos either - actually am not much of a fan of tattoos at all, and have no intention of getting any - but IMO, they are ok when less is more ie you have a couple but whole body not covered. That is my personal opinion.
My husband has a large one on each upper arm, no problem with that.

I accept it is hard to do sometimes if, in our personal opinion, something is really unattractive. Tattoos, piercings, hair, choice of clothing etc - but I think we should be aware of our own prejudices and try to force ourselves to let go of prejudice and not make assumptions about people.
Does that make sense?

I hate tattoes. For me, it's taking a perfectly beautiful body and messing it up.
I agree 100%.
But since everybody, including his grandmother, now are all wearing tats, I'll have to get used to them.
I can't nor do I need to.
That said, ain't no way I can get used to piercings. I just want to run over and rip them out on purely health reasons.
People have had pierced ears since before Jesus was here on earth. They can be removed at any moment. Don't ask me why (because I have no answer) but I got my ear pierced 3 years ago. A small ring. I think the reason I did it was because I was dissatisfied with my life. The reason I didn't do it earlier was because I wasn't dissatisfied with my life.
Some how having a stud sticking out of my lip and other parts on my body just doesn't do it for me.
I am back to agreeing with you 100%.
I know this makes me sound like an old coot ....
Maybe or maybe not. The bottom line, as I see it, is that piercing is a bit like changing your shirt whereas a tattoo is permanent disfigurement to a temporary notion.

If someone wants to get tattoos, that's their business / their body. I can treat them the same as anyone else, but I cannot like things I find unattractive.

THIS POST #45 FROM 01/05/25 by another SF member best describes how I feel about tattoos. I crack up every time I read it.
Truth be told, I cannot speak to anyone with facial tattoos. I don't want to know them, I want to see them. The same goes with botox lips, sillycone boobs, and manipulated eyebrows. If you want to know the direction of the railway station just don't stand in front of me when you ask.

Wrong. I am easily the most boring person ever. But, I do get paid well to speak at Insomniacs Plus gatherings where I put hundreds of people to sleep for hours at a time.
Pro Tip - Don’t put them to sleep until after they have paid your fee.

Tattoos seem to be a generational thing. To each his or her own. IMO, being a dermatologist who specialized in removing tattoos would have great job security. I wonder. Would wife #2 really want to see the name of Wife #1 every time hubby undresses?

Nose rings make my eyes water. Piercings anywhere else don't bother me, but those through-the-septum rings affect me. I guess that may be why people get them though. I saw one guy walking around with eight rings each on his upper and lower lips. Looked odd, but so what. Some of us look odd naturally.

Sick & tired of Cynthia Erivo. Want to hook her nose to a fence. Don't mind one side nostril piercing, but in the middle????????

I have always hated tattoos with a passion. Putting that lousy ink on your body, and it's there for life. Then you have all that metal hanging down from a person's face and body. Ugh!!

Which ear, Inept, left or right? You know what I mean, I suppose.
