I Can't Order from Amazon Without Signing up for Prime? Seriously?

I'm sure this has been discussed but I didn't research. I signed up by accident once for Prime when placing an order. I immediately cancelled. Now I'm alert to it and I'm very diligent before placing an order to be sure I do not sign up for it. I want to place an order. I'm afraid there is no way out that I can see to refuse Prime. I just need to cancel immediately.

Anyone else notice this? Thanks.

I don't do much business with Amazon anymore, but they do use tricks to sign you up for prime. Forcing you to get prime, doesn't sound ethical, and I even wonder about legality. The only thing I can think of is to study the site some more and focus on the fine print. I can't imagine them requiring you to take prime. Well OK, I can imagine it.

Amazing is ok to me. Prime TV, Thursday night football. and prime / free shipping for most items & a few days wait.
Going out to eat and a Sit-Down Movie cost more than prime. Most all forums have side bar sellers. Its all about suck
ya in. Impulse buying, maybe lots of it. We have Rural homes and shopping is miles away. Deliveries of much stuff is great
for us. I drive into the mostly full parking lots, 1/4 mile to the door. The walk is great except when its 103 on the blacktop
or a brisk NW breeze and 20 F. The Gas alone is 10x the Yearly Prime fee. Couple years ago we got the grandaughter a
X-mas present and ended up having to UPS it 80 miles. Shipping was higher than the $40 present. Now we have
Amazing Prime Delivery to JoJo. 24 mpg and 160 miles 65 mph in Turbos costs Near that too.

Checking out the Item, search thru the comments. Know if the thing will fit ya run swimming tight and jogging loose?
I have had to probably return (free) with money back on maybe 10 or so items in the past 5 years. Mostly loose fit stuff.
1 Chinese drop cord. couldn't plug it in or into it. I have cancelled many items several hours after purchase, deciding it
was impulsiveness. Amazing is sort of like Xmas shopping without the crowd, weather or threat.

We usually go with the later delivery, not the overnight /same day option. Can't see getting damaged boxes and packages.

I've had Prime for years now, but I never used to have any problem. I guess make sure you aren't selecting a feature that is part of Prime, which maybe would include Subscribe options or Prime delivery options.

I washed my hands of Amazon years ago when they tried to trick me into signing up with Prime. I learned later they had tried that same trick with others. I didn't want it then and I don't want it now. I don't trust a company that tries to trick you into signing up for anything. I haven't used it since and even if I have to pay extra money occasionally, I will not purchase from them again!

If I remember right. After you place your order, there will be a box for shipping options. The top option will be in one or two days, FREE. But in small print, it will say "with Amazon Prime". You click on that and you've got Prime. It's really easy to miss the "with A. Prime" line.
Read the shipping options box carefully, especially the "FREE" options.
Right. But I should get free shipping with $35.00 plus. I want to get a few smaller items. I'm so not a fan of Amazon anymore, but for convenience, I'm willing to order.

I'll check again. I was going to order the other evening but waited. I did a Google search also and found the same complaints online.

I absolutely hate this aspect of Amazon. I have no desire or need for most of the 'benefits' of Prime, but I have found myself with a 'free trial' whether I asked for it or not. I'm careful to cancel this 'free trial' as soon as possible. In spite of this, I get emails trying to get me to renew my membership. No thanks, Amazon.

I can't say I blame you. Seriously, it's not cool what they do. I hate to run around to different places trying to get what I want. But if they keep this garbage up...

I pay $11.99 CDN a month for Prime on my Rogers cable network. I watch at least 4 hours of it, most nights. Over the course of a month, my Prime $11.99 works out to a few cents per hour per night. I recently watched all 38 episodes of the French Canadian Police drama series 19-2, over a 2 week period of time. Absolutely outstanding acting and story lines, with no commercials. I also have Net flicks . JIM.

Makes sense and if I ever dump cable, this would be something to look into. But I'm not there at this time with getting streaming or even some book downloads, which I think are included. Right now I'm only interested in ordering items and don't need prime.

Smart TV set, HDTV, 100's of channels and Internet TV / Movies too with USB memory plugged in. Save em.

Another frustrating thing Amazon has started doing is stuff I used to buy from them, you can no longer buy a single unit, they only carry it in a 2- or 3-pack. So I've been able to order some of the single items from Walmart.com.
I usually order Turbo's tires from Walmart, delivery at my residence and they mount.

You have to be really careful with Amazon that you don’t order prime and that you get free shipping. Even if you spend 35 when you go to place your order they have charged for shipping and you have to choose the free option.

£8.99 a month here..or £95 annually.. for that we get free next day sometimes the same day shipping..7 days a week...

Access to 1,000 E-books...in Prime reading

grocery delivery in a 2 hour slot...

Try before you buy...

prime Video

Amazon music

15% off £40 of select items...

...and as I order maybe twice a month ... I think £8.99 is worth it... tbh

I've only ordered 6 items from Amazon in the last 10 years, only with free shipping, and never with Prime.

I've ordered many more things from Ebay, due to the prices being much better, and sometimes from Walmart.
Besides random occasions like those, I always do my food and regular shopping locally and in person.
I always put together orders to insure they qualify for free shipping.

Yup. And I kind of feel like a fool because that bundle isn't cheap. TV, internet, phone.
Yeah, ever since the Telecom Act of the '90s they have us by the short hairs. But no point in getting political over it now. I'm sure Perot is somewhere shaking his head.
