My son mowed our grass and decided that when he was done he would throw his old sneakers in the garbage. I rescued them and with his big feet there was plenty of room for a Marigold. I was surprised at how well it worked. I water the whole sneaker and it retains moisture quite well, shoes.JPG of course he was mortified to see them on the step.

That is VERY funny, :ROFLMAO: thanks for the picture!

The marigolds look great planted that way!! :)and actually it does fit the new purpose, perfectly!
:giggle:
He couldn't argue with how well it works, for a garden potting, could he?

If he ever discards his old boots, at your house (probably now, he'd never dare)

Remember, You'd have to make a few drainage holes first, unless they were very badly worn out soles.

Another advantage to this type of "container gardening" is that, if the plant needs more sunlight, or is wilting from too much strong sun, or needs to get out of a stormy breeze, etc.....

then the entire planting is easily moved, temporarily, to a more favorable growing spot!

And then back, later on!

Well Ruth you are not alone .... living off grid like I did one learns to almost never throw things out because one can usually find another use for them. During the coldest part of the winter here in Alaska we wore what was called bunny boots, (military surplus cold weather foot gear). After a decade of use this was how some of mine ended up...
