I dislike buying cars

We have a couple of pickup trucks: 2004 & 2005. The Silverado pulls the 5th wheel, the Tundra is DH's personal vehicle and is also necessary for business. My 2017 RAV4 hybrid (bought January 2020) has 42,000 miles on it. Purrs like a kitten and has great gas mileage.

All vehicles were purchased used. Like @Gardenlover, DH & I hate buying cars so we keep ours in good repair and drive them until we have a very good reason to upgrade. When I got the RAV4, I started this thread:
Got a new car - Holy crappolly, Batman, what a learning curve!

I don't have an e-bike but I read it's an excellent cost-saving alternative to cars for those who live in a mild climate zone and enjoy fresh air. It's great in hilly areas. I've seen many seniors with them on the island but the island has bike paths, level, mild weather, low-key population, and safe. I don't get one because I like using my legs on a regular bike for circulation and strengthening. E-bikes can go really fast though.

I guess you have to be young at heart and fairly healthy but the article made sense saying ""It's funny that people act shocked at the sticker price of $2,000 for an e-bike and then leave home in a $40,000 SUV and pay an extra $700-$1,000 a month for their car's gas and insurance.
You can retire earlier by saving a bundle on car maintenance for 5 years. Charging the battery is maybe $20 of power a year.

If more people would do this it benefits everyone.

E-bikes are highly discouraged here, they've become a blight in college campus areas. They've never been legal on sidewalks or bike paths here. They have also become the fastest growing source of intractable e-waste.

I guess it works here on the island because they mostly use Ocean Dr which has very little traffic (occasional golf-carts). Tourist season is a little busier but everyone drives slowly with caution. There are family's walking to the beach, dog-walkers, etc
