I dislike mobile (cell) phones

I'm one of those rare people who don't have a cell phone & never had one. When they became popular, the first thing I predicted came true (unfortunately)...that idiots would dial & text while they were driving & people would be maimed & killed. And other idiots who drove passenger vehicles would also cause injury & death (like the Metrolink conductor in Chatsworth who killed 25 passengers in 2008).
A few years ago, I had a first date. During dinner, she answered her cell phone & chatted at least 4 times. When I didn't call her for a second date, she called me & said, "Why haven't I heard from you...I thought we were getting along very well?" I said, "If you really don't know, you're even more stupid than I thought."

Of course, I'm not entirely blaming the phones, but they do allow & encourage people to be rude. And stupid.

At a restaurant last week there was a family - dad, mom, and three kids - at the table next to us. Dad, mom, and the two older kids were glued to their cell phones the entire time they were there. Even while eating. The littlest one seemed to be surgically attached to his portable video game. There was no conversation among them ... at all. So sad!

We rely on our land line and have wireless handsets all over the house. They have a voice function that announces the caller, so if we don't recognize it we needn't get up to answer the call. Like others here, we both have cell phones for travel but they're rarely used. I can't imagine having to drag a cell phone all around the house to avoid missing calls. What a pain.

I also have a land line for my house. My family tried to get me to cancel it and just use my cell phone. I told them "No way! I'm not hauling a cell phone all over my house so I can take a call!". As it is now, I have land line extensions in several convenient places so if it rings, it is no problem to answer it. I wouldn't have a cell phone now if my land line hadn't been dead for several days and I realized I couldn't call for help if I needed it. That is the only reason I have one and I still haven't used it now.

I paid 1$ for my playing card sized cell phone. The service is much cheaper than a landline, since I rarely use it. I appreciate having a little data to look stuff up when I'm out.

I also have my Landlines too... 3 handsets.. dotted around the house, and I even though we both have Iphones , there's no way I'm getting rid of my landline.

I have to say that my life is a heck of a lot easier because of my smart phone. Many reasons. For instance recently I was in a shoe store looking for hiking shoes. I found some in a sporting good store I really like them, so I immediately look them up on Amazon to see if I can find them cheaper.
