I done a small shop just now.

In the stores here, they will generally ask if you would like help packing. We always decline. In an attempt to reduce the use of plastic, stores charge for bags, so now most people bring their own multi-use shopping bags. We have a large collection of shopping bags bought on our various European travels. On one occasion recently, I noticed that, like me, the lady in front was using a Delhaize shopping bag and this led to a conversation of how we preferred continental supermarkets to British ones.

Since moving out of town, I rely heavily on online food shopping and only go into town for the odd bits and bobs. The online shopping arrives in small crates (like bread crates) and it's a very quick swap over as I give the empty crates from last week and take in the full ones. For going into town, I take my own backpack.
