I downloaded a bird identification app and it crashed my laptop

Sounds like malware or a virus. I bet you could have saved money by installing a good antivirus malware program like malware bytes.

I got so many of those when I was starting out I specialize in taking them out . Even try to catch them on purpose when bored, just to remove them.

My neighbor is on her second phone for constantly downloading apps she thinks will speed up her phone, and laptop is toast.

My fee for restoring contaminated computers used to be something, like a bottle of scotch. One time i got a room painted by a co-worker(the painter) for fixing his machine.

Huh, most I seem to get for tech support is a meal out of the deal or a thank you.

In many cases, you can just restore you computer to an earlier date (Like a few days before the download). It gives you dates to choose from, and you can select one, and your computer goes back to the way it was on that date. You can find the instructions online. It's not all that hard, and I had to do it once because of a virus, and it worked.
