I Envy People Who...

Short story writer. Sold short story in 1984, (whoohoo! ha). Never learned writing rules. Sold 2 - 40 line poems. Over the years other responsibilities took away the many hours it always took me to come up with a story and now, as still an untaught writer, I'm too mentally pooped to try.

I've always been comfortable as is. I'm a weed. Ive always managed to bloom where Im planted.
I do miss being thin. I wish I could stuff my face with abandon like I used to and not gain weight.
So I guess I do have an envy. I envy skinny people.

Not an envy. But sometimes I wonder what it would be like to be an extravert with tons of friends.
Im an introvert so thats not gonna happen anytime soon. :D

So tell me, what talents/skills would you like to have?

Great question! Thank you.

I'm a firm believer in that "talent" is a direct correlation to the amount of work that a person puts into whatever the task is. Lots of people argue that a musician is "talented", but if that's true, I'm not one of them even though I've spent 50+ years as a musician, professional, wannabe-professional, and amateur. I've never hit the big time, though I found I can't not do music.

But what I have found, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, is that those who have leapfrogged beyond me have done so because they've put the work in. We're talking serious woodshedding and dedicated practice. Sometimes, so goes the tragedy, that some musicians (thinly disguised as pop stars) can break out and collect millions without a solid musical basis, and that's true.

If I could do it all over again, I would be a mapmaker. Tried to do that in the Army, but they wouldn't take me due to poor eyesight. So I did other things (cooking, music, linguistics, translations, leadership) and enjoyed the ride. I ain't done yet.

If you want to see unbridled joy in a musician doing what she truly loves, look no farther:

Cooking is nothing but applied chemistry and physics. There are plenty of cookbooks with that angle available.
Nope. It's physics, chemistry, and an art form. I'm no artist, but I've seen plenty of it while applying my brand of physics and chemistry to the food products I've put on the table.

I've always been gobsmacked as to the artistry, though I could never replicate same.

I envy people who are over 70 and can walk with no problems.
I have mentioned this before , that in my area there is a 90 plus guy who walks 2 miles every am and looks great .

He is pretty hot tempered as saw him few days ago and told him we need to party and he is witty and on the ball , he attributes it to his walking he replied he did not party with idiots , I laughed and agreed with him .

I wish I could walk 2 miles but my hip would be in real pain next day .

Agree .

JMO. If you want to try something dont stop just because you cant do it perfect.
You might discover a hidden passion. Or not. :D
Dance for yourself.

Ive tried a lot of things just to see if I could. Some were worth the effort. Some were not.
Ive made sauerkraut from scratch. It wasnt worth the effort. I dont even like sauerkraut that much. :D

I learned and you can be taught if you want to.
