I fell..had trouble getting up Called 911

I always find that it shakes me up when I fall.. In the last 12 month I've fallen hard twice and really hurt myself, but I find that the shock of it is often more of a problem than the fall sometimes..

Sounds like you didn't do too much damage and fortunate that you had people responding very fast... hopefully you're feeling better now.. 🌺

OK, I am a couple days out. @Wren I know what you mean about a delayed reaction...yesterday I suddenly started feeling very leary about walking. Better now. I have a nice healthy bruise (since I could not see it, I took a pic with my camera to see) which will hang out for a while. But I am OK. I keep my walker near my chair now.

@Marie5656 it is good to know that you're feeling a bit better but I'm sure the fall was scary. My primary care physician always asks if I have had any recent falls and if my house is free of obstructions and things that could cause me to fall (like unlit hallways, area rugs, etc.). I seem to trip over things easily, even over my own two feet.

I wish you a full recovery and no more falls.

Oh my! So very very sorry!

I have had Life Alert before. (I am disabled). That company gives you a pendant that you wear around your neck. It does not need any charge.

It is very light. You can sleep with it on. I am pretty sure you can even wear it in the shower.

They give you other devices as well, of course. And you get a kind of "beeper" device that you can use even if you leave the property. If you carry that with you, it has the same function as a panic button...so if you are in danger, if your car breaks down, whatever...you can beep them and they will send police, fire or whatever help you need. The "beeper" device includes a voice connection to their system.

Their system is excellent. But...they are very expensive. It was $70 per month, plus you had to take a 3 year deal, if I remember correctly.

But that system works extremely well, very professional. They check in on you at least once a month to make sure everything is working.

If you have the money, I recommend it.

It worked great for us, but we ended it to save the money. They were not great with allowing us to end the contract. They got aggressive and were jerks. We did end it, of course. But they could have handled it a lot better.

But as to the service itself? Completely top notch.

So sorry about your fall, and glad you are OK. DH has started falling, his balance is off. He uses a walker around the house and a cane with a foot outside. He skinned his knees his last fall, the big problem is he is slow to heal and gets infections easily.

@JonSR77 My button has a GPS installed, so I can use it out side as well. I plan to wear it this summer when I plan to be walking outside more. I have to charge it, but I get a text alert on my phone if charge is running low.
An interesting thing happened once. I was going to bed, and went to put the button on my night stand. I missed the mark, and it fell off the stand. A "fall alert" came over the speaker, and a operator checked in to assure I was OK

I am thinking of you as well, Marie.
I hope you will be feeling better overall, very soon, and that the bruise will heel, and that you can find ways to be very careful, and to do whatever you can do, to avoid falling again!❤️💜💛🧡💚

so sorry about all the difficulties. take care.

Late last night I was up wandering around. Stepped wrong and took a tumble. I bumped up against a small table by my chair and wend down lie a sack of taters. And, once down, it is for the count, until I get help.
So, I scootched the couple feet to my phone, and called 911. It was 4AM ish. Down in the outer lobby there is a locked access box that First responders can access to get a master key. So, I waited about 10-15 minutes and rescue came. Because of my bad knees and shoulders, they could not just reach under my arms and lift.
So, they used their trusty rescue mat, strapped me in and lifted me u,p and into my chair. They took vitals, as per protocol, and stayed a few minutes to assure I was OK. One of the guys was even nice enough to go into my freezer to get my ice pack for me. Then off they went.
So sorry to hear about your tumble, @Marie5656
Glad you were able to call for help.
How are you feeling, did you have to go to the doctor.
Hope you didn't break anything.
This type of thing happening when you live alone is very scary.
Take care, Marie.

So sorry you experienced that @Marie5656! It is good you had the quick response by the emergency techs and everything is healing. I added night lights that plug into the wall and light up when the power is off. They keep a nice glow at night and this has helped me see better at night. I don't know if this is helpful to you, but thought I'd share it with you. Good luck!

I have a nice big bruise. Very colorful. Hurts some, but I think I fill feel better over time, while it heals. No doctor visit, as nothing seems broken

Oh, I do too. But in this case, I did have a light on. Just clutzy. I feel it is healing, as it is very itchy. I am trying not to scratch it.
