I Find British Money Confusing

I was looking at my non-U.S. coin collection which I haven't in years. Apparently Great Britain has changed it's currency over the years. I have soem farthings, shillings, pence, then there new pennies and new pence. I'm so confused as how to sort them by denominational value.
Scrooge paid Bob Cratchit 15 Shillings a week!

Have you heard of, or seen, the white, five pound note? To compensate for the gold shortage caused by the French Revolutionary Wars (1792–1802), in 1793 the Bank of England issued the £5 note. The single-sided and fully-printed 'white fiver' design remained in circulation until 1957.

I never saw it :( - But have a recollection that it did happen
I don't know if it was specific to Scotland and Ireland.. but always at weddings, the children would gather..that's all children in the neighborhood.. and wait for the bride & groom to get in the car after the service, and a big bag of pennies would be thrown out of the window for the children to scarmble for in the road... we always had a great time doing that as kids..
