For driving the wrong type of vehicle in a restricted zone!

A road that I have driven on for years has suddenly sprouted a traffic
sign, restricting Cars and Motorcycles, right at the end of it about a
mile from where I drove into the area.

Every roadway that joins the route I was on is either a dead end or it
is one way into the road, Parsons Mead is the name and it was getting
me from one major route through to another!

I am not very happy at the moment and expressed my thoughts to the
Borough Council.

Quite unfamiliar with law there in England or your municipality, but obviously it is a London/Borough Ordinance or whatever the term is. If it was U.S. I could offer some words.

Mike how come you drove down a non permit holder route..?..how much have they fined you ?

Why is it all of a sudden a restricted zone? Radioactive leaks? Seismic activity detected? Murderer on the loose? I see no construction.
Well, on a more serious note, is the Borough needing some extra cash in their coffers using nefarious means?

Don't laugh, that happened in NC. The town changed the time increments of stoplights so that you didn't have time to get through the light safely. Lots of unsuspecting people, who were all fined with $50 tickets, complained and it was stopped...cameras removed.

The newspaper somehow found out how much the town was making from all of the fines and reported it in an article. It was an obscene amount.
Must be public record. It was shortly after that when they removed the cameras.

hollydolly,

I joined that area from Factory lane at the bottom of the map, image below, there
are no warning signs, it is a route that I often use and was on it a few days before'
I think that the sign was in stalled and started working on the 1st of June.

The fine is £130, but if I pay in 14 days it is £65, I have appealed on the grounds that
it is sneaky, though I didn't use those words.

Lara,

This borough declared itself Bankrupt in March or April, the then leader has gone, the
building company that they founded has folded, the Hotel that the bought for a lot
of money is now on offer for a lot less etc., etc., etc.

£600 Million I believe they need.

In Pennsylvania, whenever local or state driving laws are changed, a 15 day notice must be posted prior to the change. When I worked in Erie County there was a bridge where the speed limit on that roadway was posted at 45 mph. After a State and Federal inspection was completed, the speed limit was lowered to 35 mph because of a weight issue. The bridge needed to be reconstructed. A few days after the posting was removed, I was assigned to run radar checks on the road. Within a half hour, I had stopped 4 drivers for speeding. For that day “only” I was to issue a warning. One driver was going 66 mph and he was not exempted. That driver received an unchallenged fine.

In Ohio notice requirements are required if a local ordinance disallows what the state permits. In other words, Ohio permits right turns on red and left turns from a one way street on to a one way street, however a locality is permitted to not allow it as long as signs are posted as to "not trap unsuspecting motorists" State v. Parker: OSC.

Here they put it in the Local Free Newspaper that used to be
delivered, but not any more, you need to go and find a copy!

Remember this one?

Today I got a reply in the post, my appeal has been rejected and
to rub salt in the wound, it looks as if the 50% reduction for quick
payment is also rejected, they are asking for the full £130.

I will be on the phone on Monday though!

Unfairness is everywhere - why should we accept it? Mike, is there a local newspaper who would enjoy having a go at the idiots who thought up this idea?
As for being advised of the change... It was put nicely in the Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy.....

It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard."

Yet another reason I won't be driving in the UK any time soon!

I once rented a car and drove from the airport in London to and around the Cambridge area, it was a harrowing experience to say the least. Y'all drive on the wrong side of the road, have too many traffic circles and things are just down right confusing... When lost I stopped a few times asking for directions, found everyone quite friendly, all were happy to help. My favorite direction came from a guy who was really trying, but when he said "look out for the left bear" I was confused. Did not know there were still bears in England!
