I have my grandmas recipe for chili sauce although I haven't made it in years. I used to can it back then but the last time I made it I put it in the freezer, ron j. (2).JPGchili sauce2.JPG
We had a lot of tomatoes this year so I prepared them earlier in the season in the amount needed for my recipe..
I forgot what a process it was and it sure didn't seem as tiring 30 years ago.
It does make 6 pints though.
I enlisted the hubby for chopping duty and he did a pretty good job.
Even though my house smelled like a pickle factory it brought back memories of my Grandmas kitchen.
I loved it spread on gooey white bread.
I have to eat gluten free now but I put some in a bowl and used a rice cake for dipping. I savored all the flavor and memories.

A sure sign of fall!

I love the smell of chili sauce and the memories associated with it.

Standing at the stove stirring while it thickened became a chore until we started finishing it in the crock pot with the cover off. We just gave it a stir every now and then when we walked by the pot.

This simple scaled down recipe is nice for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

@Jules my son made me two of these cutting boards. He is a cabinet maker by trade and makes me many things from leftover material from his jobs.
@Ellen Marie I would be glad to share when I get a chance.
@Aunt Bea I was thinking about using the crock pot but couldn't figure out how it would thicken. My little pes brain never thought of leaving off the lid. lol I'll try that next year.
