I had to Tell My Banks To Stop Sending Those Balance Transfer Checks

At first I called Wells Fargo. I told the representative that I was recording her. She said "No you can't do that!" I said "Why not? The bank records me when I call". I stated my purpose for calling with the voice recorder still going. When she was ready to proceed, I complied, letting her know that I now have a record of calling to request the discontinuation, then let her know I had stopped the recording.

WF sends those checks out quite frequently and as I've mentioned before, our mail sometimes winds up in the wrong boxes. For all I know, somebody across town may get those checks. I've gotten mail for people who lived in completely different zip codes...even a different town! I let the representative know this. She transferred me to someone in the appropriate department to complete the request.

When I called TD bank, the agent had no problem with me recording the conversation. Both TD and WF sends out a block of about 4 checks. I deal with three other financial institutions and never get those checks from them. Maybe I already requested that they stop, but I don't remember doing so. The added PITA is that I have to take time to shred them. Do you get those checks?

I've never received such a thing, never even heard of them.

Are they what they sound like? Balance transfer checks used to transfer money from one account to another? I can't imagine many would use such a thing in this day of online banking.

I think @OneEyedDiva is referring to a credit card bank? I used to get those with the CC statement every month. I believe it was to be used to pay off another credit card, thereby transferring that debit balance to the one which issued the check. I called them and asked them to stop sending them. Haven't received any since then. Was it because I asked them not to? Or was there some other reason?

With the high cc debt now, it seems a risky thing for the bank to do. No credit check in advance? Because that is a loan. IDK. But I am glad they stopped sending them.

Years ago some financial company would send a bunch of blank checks, with the chronic mis delivery of our mail, that was a big concern. Finally got them to stop that unscrupulous practice.
I used to be able to have my new, blank checks sent to the bank branch and I'd go in and get them because we have a lot of mail theft around here. But they won't do that anymore, said if I'm that worried about blank checks being stolen out of my mailbox that I should get a post office box. The waiting list for a p.o. box, however, is a mile long. And the nearest place with boxes is a considerable drive away anyway. So I have the checks delivered to my mailbox and worry 'till they get here. Thank goodness I don't use that many checks anymore anyway; it's mostly cards.

Same here- never heard of them..

All I receive- upon request- are small packs of regular checks. Anymore, all I use checks for is to pay my rent.
