I have a friend who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease

Of late he has been spiralling downwards.
I rang just now to invite him out for coffee tomorrow.
He replied - "Do you know my address, do you know what number my place is"?
I replied "Yes, I know where you live"
He replied "How? I have never seen you here before"
I visit regularly; this is a marked deterioration of his condition. :(

..and yet he may remember you when he sees you... and that could last the whole of your visit, or just a few minutes of it.... it's a horrible disease....
He has good days and bad days. When I rang him, he mentioned that he read my Letter to the Editor that was published today.
His long-ago memory is really good. He often talks about his past life, how he wooed his wife, he can list all the houses he has lived in and all the cars he has owned.
I indulge him and let him reminisce even though I have heard all this multiple times.

oh yes it's well know that the long term memory is the last to go... even in the very end stages some people who recognise no-one at all. and really don't even remember how to chew food even .. can still be heard remembering something that happened in their childhood..
It's devastating for you as his friend to see this happening... it's like an Alien has taken over the friend you once knew...

My friend and I went out for coffee yesterday.
He was rather scatterbrained but not too bad.
5 hours later I received this text from him: because 503. Come.
Nonsensical so I rang him and he said he never texted me.
As I said, he was rather scatterbrained today.
It’s great that you are still visiting him. You are a good friend Bretrick

My friend Ashley has had a bad fall and broke his hip and femur on Saturday.
Surgery was delayed until today. A 3 hour operation and he is in recovery so doped up he knows nothing.
This was his 4th hip replacement and there is no knowing how he will handle this mentally.
For the past year he has been very down and in a lot of pain with other issues.
His wife, though stoic, is starting to have health issues and has been his carer since his diagnosis in May of 2024.

There are 3 people I know well had Alzheimer's diseases in the past 5 years.

One person was my SIL, other were a neighbor and a good aquaintance/friend.
All of three people developed Alzheimer's disease after 75 years old.
They were taken care in decent way, but one of them lived more than 8 years on which the family got a toll both financially and emotionally although she were in a good care by a caregiver.

Nowadays, so called 'baby boom' hit hard, Alzheimer's disease.
