I have not been to the pictures in decades

The last film I saw at the flicks was The City of Lost Children in 1995, guessing here but I think this was the last one I saw.
In passing time awaiting the servicing of my car I had a look at Hoyts Cinemas showings.
Price of a ticket is AU$21.
No one is allowed to take their own snacks into the theatre.
If I wanted a soft drink and Popcorn - $17.90.
Though for the life of me why would anyone want to eat popcorn at the flicks for such a ridiculous price?
It seems that the general public have been conditioned that they must eat and drink at the movies.
Why can they not go without for 2 hours maximum?
I am afraid a large proportion of the population have lost the ability to think for themselves.

The last time I went to the movie theater was probably Dec 18, 2018. I used to go every Tuesday because on Tuesday the ticket was just US $5 and popcorn only $2 (or $4 for large).
I am not sure what movie I saw, probably a Spiderman one, which was not as bad as I expected. When I was going every week I couldn't be too choosy about which movie to see, it would be the best choice for the time I arrived, which varied on how timely I left the office.
I really loved the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, I had not been familiar with Queen before that.
Must confess I'm one of those people conditioned to eat popcorn at the movies!

I go to the movies a couple of times per week because it takes me away from the worries and cares of everyday life. I eat healthy every day, but when I go to the theater I smuggle a box of Sno-Caps in my pocket and just buy a drink. I never have popcorn. I am usually asleep during the first third of the movie from the sugar high, but it works for me.

The last movie I saw in movie theatre was "Jumanji:The Next Level' in March 2020,a week before Covid shut down everything .It was the sequel to 'Jumanji:Welcome to The Jungle: with Dwayne Johnson,Kevin Hart, Jack Black,Karen Gillian. I loved it,funny just as good as the 1st one

I think the last movie was "Jurassic Park". I googled it, It came out in 1993-28 years ago.. For me going to the movies is a hassle. You have to drive to the theater, park in a huge parking lot, spend lots of money on tickets, popcorn & soda. Sit with a bunch of people, and their phones. Then rush out to be first to get out of the parking lot, and drive back home. TV is free and you can watch it your underwear.

I haven't been either for the same reasons.... Last film was 'Avatar'... and the sound was on so loud, I needed earplugs.. and the AC was frigid... .. so why should I pay extortionate prices, and not even be allowed to take my own drink in , and pay eye watering prices in-house for a drink .. when I can sit at home and wait for the film to come on Netflix.

Edited, sorry not Alien... Avatar...changed it

I have not been to see a film in over 30 years. Yes, the public is brainwashed into thinking that they must "pig out" like pigs at the trough in movie theaters. Have you ever looked around when the lights go on after the movie is over? The floors is covered with popcorn, boxes, cans, etc. A rear pig sty! Can't beat buying my "Gunsmoke" from Amazon and enjoying at at home. I can put on the pause when nature calls and my fridge always has some pudding or I can enjoy a nice bowl of cereal. I wouldn't be caught dead in a movies theater with everyone laughing when a woman gets slabbed or someone gets a knife in the stomach. A lousy soft drink and a popcorn for $17.90? They must be MAD and I'm not talking about anger.

We also haven't been to more than a couple of movies in the past decade. Most of today's movies seem to be aimed at a teen age mentality, and consist of little more than endless "special effects". Between stupid movies, and ridiculous prices for a snack, more and more theaters are shutting down or only operating at a reduced schedule.

Besides, with all the "streaming" services available today, a person can get all the "entertainment" they want in the comfort of their home.

I have not been to a movie in decades. When I did go, my old man prostate had me go to relieve myself in the middle and I invariably missed the good part. Never had popcorn since I'm not a snacker. A drink would have sent me to the men's room a second time.
