I have to stop gardening, your story?

I could survive 4 days without water, 10 days without food, but I can't go one day without enjoying the beauty of a plant or flowers.

I am on the 6th floor of an apt bldg (without balcony), but I have 22 plants, some with beautiful flowers, which brighten my day, EVERY DAY.

I moved from a home with small garden. Much of my most enjoyable time, along with my lady, was spent on digging, planting, re-potting, admiring, trimming, watering. The birds and butterflies the garden attracted were a bonus. Even our pug enjoyed the fragrances and butterflies. I so miss that garden, but my indoor plant menagerie will suffice. Nature is such a wonderful companion and teacher.

OMG! How on earth can you live without a touch of nature in your home?

When I was young, I had a dream of owning a garden.
Now that I am getting old, I have no energy to take care of a garden.

I laugh and tell people..."I'll probably die on my lawn mower."
I can no longer do many things in the yard but I can still mow the grass. Lately I've picked up many sticks and limbs with a long pickup stick, pile them on the small platform at my feet on my mower and take them to the burn pile, the big ones I can't pickup, I tie to the mower and drag them....I have a huge pile to burn.
...I dread the day I can't be outside.

Of course, up north tomatoes were the "biggee" for me, but the zucchini, peppers, pole beans, onions, and big lettuce were close seconds. Beets and carrots were also winners. Here down south, I tried various peppers and had some success - especially jalapenos and habaneros. I would package them in zip lock bags and distribute them at the office. I warned them about the habaneros, but a few folks just had to learn the hard way.

We have a large lot, for being in the center of the village, and it is getting to be a LOT of work for me. New knees have helped but I cannot be on my knees and bending over makes it harder to pull weeds after awhile. It is getting to be a full time job and leaves me no time for other projects.

We will soon go to an apartment (hopefully with a balcony) at a beautiful Retirement Community. They have small garden plots and I can always buy a pot! I never had much luck growing vegetables and this yard has a LOT of flowers. I will miss the fresh (FREE) rhubarb the most.

JP strap, it’s too bad you don’t have a balcony. When I bought my condo 3 years ago that was one of my requirements to have a balcony. I like having my own outdoor space and my dogs love it too. Your plants sound lovely. For 20 years I didn’t have plants but since buying my condo I have 5 which is plenty for me.
